I can't recall ever finding that great a place to eat at Hollywood Studios. Sci-Fi Diner and the other diner (with the TVs) are fun, but the food's not great. We are going in February with our 4-year-old daughter. Does anyone have a suggesstion on a sit-down spot in the park to use our dining plan? Depending on what time the park closes, I'm wondering if we might be better eating outside the park that night.

I would take the boat from DHS over to the Yacht and Beach Club and eat at Beaches and Cream. Your DD4 will like the soda fountain atmosphere. The burgers are yummy and make sure to save room for dessert!

Here's a menu: Beach and Cream Menu (from wdwinfo.com)

(checking to see if they take DDP ... Table Service = 1 credit)

We've eaten at the following DHS restaurants ...

Sci-Fi Dine-In - You have to stick to the burgers and shakes at this restaurant. If you get too adventurous, you're risking a let down. We've had two successful meals here (both times burgers and shakes). Also, the onion rings are YUMMY!!!!

50's Prime Time Cafe - Before eating here, I read pros and cons on the food. So, we went with an open mind to make our own opinion. Personally, I did NOT like the food here. It tasted "old", like it had been cooked hours ago. We won't be going back.

The Hollywood Brown Derby - We ate here with our three children. I was a little hesitent to take them here. It turned out to be a great meal. The food was great, the service very attentive and the children enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. This was a surprise hit with our children.

We have an ADR for Mama Melrose for our upcoming trip. So, I can't comment on it yet. But, I've read some positive and negative reviews. I plan to go and form my own opinion. We like Nine Dragons at Epcot ("the best" honey sesame chicken!!!!!) and it get so much negative feedback. Everyone had their own likes and dislikes.

Giving the thread a BUMP! :goodvibes

:scared1: Okay, am I a thread-killer? This is about the fifth thread this past week I replied to and then no one else comments. The DISboards is slow this week! :confused3

I have to second Mama Melrose... YUUUUUUUUMY :goodvibes
Sci-Fi was "okay"... I'm not much of a burger fan though
PrimeTime was "fine", some of the CM's are a real hoot :lmao:
We're doing the Brown Derby this trip, so I can't comment yet....
And, we're two adults(?) :rotfl2: that don't "do" character meals, so I can't comment on H&V either

You will find good and bad reviews of EVERY establisment on property. Everyone has their likes and dislikes. Only you know your family
Check out the menus on AllEArs, they try hard to keep them up-to-date, then just go with what sounds best for your and yours.

Easy one.
The Brown Derby is heads and shoulders above anything else on the HS property.

The Cobb Salad is a Brown Derby original and a standout and do yourself a favor and try the grapefruit cake as well.

The grapefruit cake is on my list ;)

50s PTC is our fave at HS, but we have only eaten at Sci Fi once and several times at Mama Melroses. I would suggest Mamas.

Yep! We had our best meal of the week here! The food was fabulous, the service was attentive, and they prepared a special meal for my super-picky daughter. Now that's service! We will definitely be going back.

That is a hard question! I really wished Disney would do something about the TS places at Hollywood STudios.

We have tried Hollywood & Vine and it was disgusted and service terrible. Mama Melrose was also just as bad. We are trying Derby Brown next week, I so hope its good b/c I give up eating at DHS. We also don't eat burgers and fries so some of the other places are out!

Mama Melrose was one of our favorite meals during our trip in May. Service and food were excellent. The calamari was some of the best I've ever had. One of the highlights were the aging starlet (think Gloria Swanson) and her young producer who visited the tables. They were a riot. My kids liked MM a lot. It's also a good value if you're on the dining plan. We booked the Fantasmic package, so got appetizers for no extra charge. Brown Derby takes 2 credits/person. Beaches & Cream doesn't give you as much bang for your points, plus there can be long waits since it doesn't take ADRs.

Definitely, Mama Melrose for me.
Great food, great atmosphere.

Then, I am biased. It's where DFi and I went on our first date!

We loved the food at Mama Melrose. Amazingly delicious actually!

The service was less than stellar but I think it was just the particular guy who served us. He actually told us he had just been moved to serving and didnt think he would be staying long!
