I went to Marrakesh over 20 years ago when DW and I were just dating, and really enjoyed it. I listened to the DIS review from 6/08 and would like to hear some opinions about it that are more recent. We're celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this year in WDW. I've already changed a Chef Mickey's reservation based on more current reviews, now am wondering if I should also switch the Marrakhesh meal especially after Kevin's bad review. We're also taking our DD's, 8 and 11.

Help me out here! Our trip is for this August.

We went in 2008. It wasn't horrible but I was underwhelmed. I found the tables ridiculously close together, and the food was just o.k. The atmosphere was nice though.
That's just my opinion however. Everyone likes different things, and you may enjoy it.:)

Well, we've eaten there a few times, most recently this past November, and we really enjoy it every time. The tables are close, but I wouldn't say "ridiculously" so. The food is quite good, in our opinion, just don't order the lemon chicken by itself - it's a bit dry and not lemony enough. This last time, I ordered the Couscous M'Rouzia Fass: couscous with braised beef served with caramelized onions, raisins, honey, almonds, and eggs $27.95 - it was really delicious! In the past, I've gone with the Marrakesh Royal Feast - Harira soup, Beef Brewat Rolls, Lemon Chicken, Roasted Lamb Meshoui, Couscous with Seven Vegetables, and Assorted Moroccan pastries $42.95 per person - a complete meal and a great selection of dishes. Try some iced Moroccan Mint Tea with dinner - it's the perfect compliment, and I'm usually not a tea-lover.

The atmosphere is exotic and lovely, and the live music and belly dancer are a treat.

I say go for it! I myself haven't been there yet (but it's on the list for December), but if you & DW went there before you were married, what a neat memory to share with your kids! I am really into memories/"how we got here" stories, etc, so if you or DW are at all like that, I would say that would outweigh any bad/mediocre food experiences you might have there.

And think of the possibility that you have a GOOD food experience AND sharing memories!! (Isn't that the quintessential Disney experience??)

So, whichever you decide, have a fantastic time!

Been there a couple of time and loved it. yes table are close, but not that close.
Belly dancers are great, especially when they get little girls up there dancing with them, gets the crowd going good everyone clapping with the music.

A must do for us! Good food, great service which is almost impossible to find now at WDW

We enjoyed our lunch better than our dinner.

Food was just OK as was the service. Our dessert (dinner) when served was still frozen. :scared1:

We've been twice and while we enjoyed the entertainment, we've decided that once every decade is enough for us.

Thanks for the feedback! I figure if EVERYONE hates it, I won't take my chances. We felt that trying some different cultural experiences can't be bad for our daughters, but we need to be able to eat the food, as well! popcorn::

We were there in September 2008 and were not impressed at all. The tables were very close together and the food IMHO was not good at all.

we ate there last December and I did not like it at all. the chicken was nothing more then dark meat microwaved. the rice wasn't even eatable the tables were so close together you got to hear everything from the tables beside you. the dessert oh I can't rember but I do now I didnt eat it all that was less then a good pastry...the belly dancer was good but no big dael to me

We ate there last Summer and enjoyed the food, but the service was not the greatest. It was a fun meal, but it took forever to get refills and the check. That being said, we would probably eat there again. If I enjoy food at a restaurant, I can overlook bad service...esp. at Disney!

I went there for dinner with a friend last year and we really enjoyed it! I had the vegetable couscous and I think he got the chicken kebabs. We had an early reservation (something in the area of 4:30, I think), so the restaurant was virtually empty, which may have colored our experience a little. I didn't have any complaints about the food (the orange water in the fruit salad I had for dessert wasn't to my taste, but there wasn't anything wrong with it). The service was excellent (very prompt) and the entertainment was terrific. I'd happily eat there again. :)

I would never cancel a reservation based on someone else's review. Some restaurants I like get constistent bad reviews here, like San Angel Inn and Kouzzina.

Marrakesh is not bad...I've stuck to chicken kebabs and couscous though. And the kebabs were not dark meat, because I won't eat dark meat. The tables are close, but not as close as Le Cellier or San Angel or Chefs de France. Was last there in February 2010.

My family loves Marrakesh. We have always had good food and good service. My son loves to order the mint tea to see the server pour the tea. :) The belly dancer and sitar player are also very cool. My husband tried the lemon chicken in February and is actually still talking about it. :goodvibes

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement...we all have different tastes. I can't believe some of the bad reviews I read of places we love, and we consider ourselves foodies with superior palates ;) ...no, really, you have to try a place for yourself and then you'll know how your family feels for the future (you're gonna go back, right? RIGHT?) :goodvibes

We tried it during our last trip, just for the experience.

It was all right. I don't think I'll be going back, but it wasn't the worst thing I've ever eaten.

The place was nearly empty when we were there. There was a musician the whole time, and a dancer came out and did a short set. It was mildly entertaining, but nothing that I'd go there to see specifically.

We ordered iced mint tea and we were offered bread. Both were excellent.

We had the beef brewat rolls and chicken bastillas for appetizers. I strongly disliked the beef--it was eggy and I didn't enjoy the spices. I loved the chicken. DH had the Sultan Sampler and I had the chicken couscous. It turns out, I don't much care for couscous. I didn't enjoy the texture or the spices and I found the whole entree, chicken included, to be dry. It needed some oil or sauce to moisten it and add flavor. DH thought his entree was fine--not great but not inedible.

For dessert, I got the pastries. They were very, very sweet but interesting to try. DH got a lovely fruit salad with an impressive variety of fresh fruits. They did quite a good job on that one.

The service was friendly and attentive. The room was very intricately designed and decorated, which was enjoyable to look at.

It wasn't a terrible experience by any means, and I'm glad I tried it, just so I can say I've tried everything. But I can't think of any compelling reason to go back, especially with so many other places I know I love.

I believe you would enjoy the Tangerine Cafe outside even more (I did)...and then you can listen to the musicians and watch the dancer outside. We found this to be much more enjoyable than Marahkesh Restaurant.

I forgot to mention that I also really liked the tangerine cafe and am planning to have lunch there again in December :cool1:
