Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in Miami near the port? Thanks in advance!

There is an area called Bayside which is near the port and the Miami heat arena. Think like DTD. There is a Bubba Gumps, and Hooters I know plus many others. If you stay at the Holiday Inn iq is across the street.

Yes avoid Bayside! So many more interesting choices outside of that area. And much more interesting atmosphere.

no we won't access to a car:(
Hoping for something very close to the port

I'm guessing you are staying in a hotel near the port then. If so, Bongo's Cuban Café is located just across the port next to the AA arena. Same Bongo's as Downtown Disney. Happens to be one of my favorite restaurants. :)

There are a couple of places in Bayside that are good as well...Latin American Café. This place is truly a no frills Cuban restaurant, but the food is good and authentic. And while the food is just typical "bar" type food at Hard Rock Café, I do love the one that is at Bayside. If you let me know what hotel you are staying at, I can see what is within walking distance (or a close cab ride away) and give you some more ideas. :goodvibes

If one would have a car, what would you recommend?;)

I'll give you a few places in different areas in and around Miami. If you want to head out to South Beach, my absolute favorite is Larios on the Beach. (This was the original location for the Estefans' restaurants, and the menu used to build Bongo's on.) It gets loud though! I also think all trips to South Beach should include the News Café. You can sit outside and people watch! Great atmosphere.

Heading over to Coconut Grove, I love Chart House, although that gets pricey (one of my favorite restaurants here in Jacksonville). Monty's is also a fun place to hang out, and is right on the bay. For a casual but good food place, Greenstreet Café rocks! Great sidewalk atmosphere. It's a bit hidden, but a simple Mapquest check will get you there.

If you want to head out to Key Biscayne (just a few minutes from downtown), Rusty Pelican is a good place to have a meal right on the bay/water.

Versailles over on Calle Ocho (8th Street) is excellent! But plan on a long wait!

Let me know if there is a specific area you would like to see, or if you wouldn't mind going even further out.

Thanks for starting this thread! We're in the same boat! (Did I just say that?) Anyway, I'm looking for the same information. We're flying in two days ahead of our 2/26 cruise to experience some of the city.:cool1: We'll catch a cab if need be but we're staying at the Holiday Inn at the port...

You will be right across the street from Bayside, and fairly close to the AA Arena and Bongo's - you can catch a cab for the short ride there.

The other places will be more of a longer drive, but doable for a cab ride.

If you head towards Coral Gables area, we like Sakura on US1 and Yardhouse off Bird Road and US 1 area

Outstanding! Thanks very much. We are also going to be in town a couple days before. Just adults this cruise and we've never been to Miami.

We are in downtown at the Marriot Marquis. What's near there?

Casa Tua, and Barton G in south beach area are 2 great fine dining places. There are lots of great dining options in south beach area, but you would need a car to get there from the port
