We recently booked a trip to Disney, staying at WL CL 12/18-12/23. Of course, with relatively short notice, ADRs are hard to come by. My plan is to spend Sunday 12/20 in Epcot during the day with lunch at Sunshine Seasons. I was hoping to return to WL for a break then dinner at WCC and then tour around the monorail resorts with the kids (DD10 and DS6) to see the decorations. Unfortunately, I can't get an ADR for WCC! I have checked repeatedly for three days (I know that is not that long) and the IPO has also checked but the only availability was an 8pm ADR which is just too late for my kids. Right now, I have two options- 4:25 at Boma or 5:20 at Kona Cafe. At this point, I feel lucky for those options. We loved Boma enough when we stayed at AKL in January to eat dinner their twice. I know we would enjoy the food but don't know if it is worth the trek out to AKL. I don't know much about Kona Cafe. I was really hoping for WCC not so much for the food but for the fun of it. Since there is no organized "fun" at Boma or Kona, I need to consider food and convenience. What would you choose? We are not planning on any fireworks or evening park activites that night.

Keep trying at WCC and check the cancellations thread and most of us are letting everyone know when we cancel. I have eaten at Kona several times and enjoyed it. The sweet freshly baked bread that they bring to the table is yummy. The kids should enjoy walking around the resort but the restaurant itself doesn't have a fun atmosphere for kids like the WCC does. I checked in at the WL a few Thanksgivings ago without a dinner ressie but since we were staying at the WL, they "squeezed" us in. It's worth a try - good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply! I was wondering if WCC would be accommodating to WL guests. I am subscribed to the Dec ADR Cancellation thread and will post my own cancellations if I am able to get a better option.

If you want fun, why not try to O'hana. I found it more fun that WCC.

I would go with Kona. This way you are at the Poly and can then tour the Poly, GF and Contemporary on the monorail. 'Ohana would be a great suggestion but it is nearly impossible to get reservations there. I would also keep trying for WCC - especially as you are staying there. Don't think they give any perferred treatment but definately try a walk up.

Thank you for the thoughts so far! I have been trying the online system about 3 times a day to check on Whispering Canyon and other options such as 1900 Park Fair or Ohana. Nothing yet! But still a month to go! The more I read about Ohana the more I think we will enjoy it better then WCC but it is a longshot I guess...

How is the food at Kona? I don't see much about dinner, mostly breakfast....

I would go with Kona, it is great food. HOWEVER, since you are staying at WL, check in at WCC right when it opens. I think someone starts checking ADRS around 4:30. When we stayed there we checked in right at that time and we did wait for about 45 minutes, but got a table. They let us know right when we asked, if we were going to be able to get a table or not. So, if they say no you can get to Kona on time.

Great suggestion! Thank you. If Kona is great food, maybe we will just skip WCC or try to work it in another day. Planning the meals is the most complicated part of the trip but I think it really pays off in the end.

I guess I should ask if everyone thinks the monorail tour of the resorts for Christmas decorations is even something worth doing. I do think my DD will especially enjoy the gingerbread house at GF but is there anything special to see at Poly or Contemporary?

We are eating at Kona Cafe on Thanksgiving Day. One of the reasons we chose this restaurant was so that we would have a good starting base for touring the resorts to see the Christmas decorations.

Where is the Dec ADR cancellation thread? We did similar and booked for mid Dec recently and can't find ressies anywhere. Honestly it's such a bummer to me that I'm considering cancelling staying on-site, go into the Starwood properties which I usually do on points with restaurants in the area of the hotel such as Sheraton Safari where we usually stay or even going over to the S/D hoping for restaurants on the BW. This was a somewhat last minute trip for my b-day and the first time on site for several years, but people making ressies 180 days in advance now is crazy to me. We never made ressies that far in advance, usually on a few days and got in somewhere but this seems ridiculous.:santa:

I completely agree with all of this. We dinned at Kona for breakfast and dinner and really enjoyed both. Plus like the PP mentioned, since you already want to ride the monorail around to the other monorail resorts, you are already at one resort. Good luck finding what you want.

Here is the link to the Dec ADR thread. Friendly DISers will post before the cancel an ADR to give someone interested a heads up. Be sure to read the first post.

I am feeling better about the ADR situation. I think it will all work out, and staying on site is super important to us. Good luck in your planning!
