Restaurant for simple "bland" meal?

Friends and I will be running the princess half marathon in February. We're staying on property w/o a car.

We love spicy food and are adventurous eaters. However, we want something simple and bland for an early dinner the night before the race. At home, I would have a grilled chicken breast, steamed vegetables and brown rice the night before a race - no sauce & no spices.

I know we could might find those things at a buffet, but given the fact that we'll be eating a small meal, drinking only water and having no desserts/etc, we'd rather not walk down a buffet full of food we can't enjoy. :rotfl:

We will be in WDW after the race to enjoy good meals, margaritas and cupcakes. ;)

I did check restaurant availability and there are still a large number of places with early Saturday dinner openings. I also looked at menus, but nothing perfect jumped out at me. We're staying at POFQ and have hoppers. We plan to be in MK and/or Epcot the day before the race. We can also easily get to DTD from our resort. Thinking Sunshine Seasons at might be our best bet, but we were hoping for a relatively calm TS restaurant rather than a food court.

Thanks for any advice!!

Wolfgang Puck Express serves a rotisserie chicken meal with mashed potatoes. My brother had it just a few days ago and said while it wasn't anything overly special, it was tasty. No sauce was added.

How about the Wave restaurant in the Contemporary Resort?
Their emphasis is healthy food, locally sourced, organic. We ate breakfast
there once and it was delicious.

From their menu: Oven-roasted Chicken - with Savory Potato Waffles, Black-eyed Peas, and Rice $17.99

Have a great race!

In Epcot: Coral Reef, Tokyo Dining, Teppan Edo

In MK: How about a sandwich and soup at The Plaza? They also have a yummy salad with grilled chicken.

I would also look at the menu for Sunshine Seasons. While it is a CS, the offerings are better than some of the TS restaurants on property and they may have a dish or 2 that suits your needs. The seared tuna noodle salad was pretty good, the tuna didn't have much spice to it, the noodles and veggies did have some sauce/dressing to them but it wasn't overpowering, IMO. So if you were looking for a quicker bite than a TS restaurant, it's something to consider.

Tony's in MK should be able to fix you a pasta dish to your liking -they're good about taking special requests. Like something plain - buttered noodles and such, some veggies and chicken I doubt they'd have a problem doing. But with any of these places - call ahead - I've read about folks placing special orders with chefs prior to arrival.

Also - at the Boardwalk - ESPN club has a huge selection. Big River Grille has some 'plain' items too. You should google "Disney World Menus" and you're sure to find something that you'd like.

Gross--One of the worst meals I had in WDW!! The waffles are served with a maple jalepeno syrup. The chicken breading was a weird flavor and slimy.

I thought it would be simple too... but no!!

Rest. Marrakesh...it's the most bland dinner I've eaten at WDW. Chicken meal with couscous. You would think Med. food would be loaded with spice, but not at this place. And the belly dancer show is neat to see.

If you find the meal you're looking for, most places will leave off the sauce. That shouldn't be a problem.

Pollo Campero at DTD - and it's a nice leisurely boat ride away for you. Citrus Grilled chicken and then you pick two sides, they have 2 different rices, beans, plantains, chips/salsa. And it's really quite tasty! I've eaten there a few times and it's filling, boring, and perfect carb/protien ratio prior to a race.

I'm also toying with the idea of the Poly food court for the stir-fried noodles with chicken prior to my marathon relay coming up in January. Honestly though, the night before I ran the full marathon this past January, I had Orange Chicken with rice at Lotus Blossom, China at Epcot and that fit the bill too. Yea, the chicken is deep fried, but the sauce was nice and the rice was perfect for carbs.

Good luck deciding!!

. . . we want something simple and bland for an early dinner the night before the race. At home, I would have a grilled chicken breast, steamed vegetables and brown rice the night before a race - no sauce & no spices . . .

Based Upo Your Requirements, Our Recommendations:
. . . The Wave, Contemporary Resort
. . . Sunshine Seasons, Epcot, The Land, downstairs

How about Il Mulino for some alfredo style pasta? I know you said no sauce but pasta is a pre-race favorite for all of us runners :)

Coral Reef. I get the grilled chicken w/o the sauce and sub mash potato. It is one of my fav meals. Being the queen of bland you can trust me! :goodvibes

If you want to stay close to your resort, POR has a make-your-own pasta station in the food court.
I'm sure whatever you guys decide will be fine before your race. :thumbsup2

Teppan Edo would be my suggestion. The food isn't heavily seasoned and it is exactly what you're describing - grilled meat, steamed veggies, and rice (though white rather than brown).

I'd pick Garden Grill. It's served family style with potatoes, fish, turkey and fresh vegetables that they grow in the greenhouses.
