Hi, my family is participating in a charity race at Disney the weekend of my 8 year olds birthday, so we have decided to take all the kids to the Magic Kingdom and have a birthday dinner afterwards. We have a range of kids from 18 months to 9 years.

As I live in Central Florida, I eat at Disney restaurants a lot without the kids. I've eaten at California Grill, Victoria and Alberts, Bluezoo, and Flying Fish to name a few. But I never drive all the way down there for kid dining.

I would rather keep this dinner as inexpensive as possible because of all of the children. My other problem is that every restaurant I've called said that no restaurant on Disney property would reserve a table for greater than 8 people and no one would guarantee being able to have two tables for 8 side by side. (I have a party of 14).

So - here are my questions.

1) Is there an obscure restaurant maybe in one of the resorts that is good for kids and might not be as busy as some of the main restaurants? (That way we'd be more likely to sit together.)

2) Or should I eat offsite? And do you have an offsite recommendation?

Thanks,
Maggie

I've reserved at the Biergarten for 12 before and had no problems. We went for the beer, but the kids would love the polka band. They're really good!

Biergarten is in Epcot at the German pavilion in World Showcase. Probably not a good choice if you'll be at Magic Kingdom.

Who told you that you would not be able to make a reservation for 14? I made one just last week for a party of 14 at Cape May Cafe, which is at the Beach Club Resort. I even specified to the CM that I did not want to split up into groups of 8/6 or 4/4/6, that we all want to be seated together and he was a bit amazed that one was available. And, it was only about 6 weeks in advance.

Call 407-WDW-DINE and talk to a CM and see what you can get. I opted for a buffet for our group so we didn't have to wait for so many people to order. Other options could be Big River Grille at the Boardwalk, 'Ohana at the Polynesian, Grand Floridian Cafe, 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian, Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge.

Whaaaa?!?! As I'm sure you've gathered from the other posters at this point, that's wrong!

'Ohanas dinner is fun for kids, and Whispering Canyon, and Chef Mickey's too.

All have good food!

another good option, near the MK and one of the most "inexpensive" WDW restaurants is Trail's End buffet at the campground... it is a boatride away from MK and a nice atmosphere...

you could also try whispering canyon at the wilderness lodge as that is great fun for kids... 'ohana at the poly is a good choice but may be difficult to get a table together... we were able to get a table for a big group (11 or 12) at crystal palace, but had to wait 'til the end of the night for our ADR (it was like a 9:30pm dinner)...

good luck & enjoy!

Wow, thanks you guys. That was extremely helpful!

I called WDW-DINE back and got a different person. It turns out it's restaurant-specific - there are restaurants that don't allow larger groups to book. Unfortunately, Ohana and Whispering Canyon were already booked until 9. No way that will work for all the kids. I was able to get Trails End at 6:30 though. I hope that one has pretty good food.

Thanks again:goodvibes

Any restaurant can make a birthday fun...so when I think of our large group being seated together and not everyone having park tickets...

I think...

IL Mulino at the Swan. (fabulous food and they are great with kids of all ages, also they have rooms to the sides of restaurant which could accomdate larger groups and give you some privacy)
Flying Fish at the Boardwalk. (tables could be adjusted easily)
Wave at Contemporary (dining room allows for tables to be adjusted easily)
Raglan Road at downtown disney. (tables could be adjusted easily)

I would have to say the most fun we have had with kids has been at either Whispering Canyon in Wilderness Lodge, or 50's Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios. I would vote for Whispering Canyon though. It is very much oriented towards kids. It is sometimes, most times, loud and they have the kids running around the restaurant with stick horse races. Very fun!!!!

As someone else already said, Trails End would probably be a cheap alternative also. Good buffet and one of the best priced buffets on Disney property.

But WC ROCKS for kids and is just a boar ride away from the MK. Just make sure you ask for ketchup!!!!!
