Restaurant dilemma...please help (opinions needed)

Hello everyone,

We have booked our honeymoon trip with the DDP (first time with dining W00T!) we have 9 nights on the DDP and therefore 9 table service credits to use we have a couple of must do restaurants and a bunch that we would like to try. I need your opinions about which we should try...if you don't mind.

Must-do meals (4 DDP credits used)

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant
Donald's Safari Breakfast
Biergarten Restaurant
Ohana breakfast
Teppan Edo (not going to use DDP credit, just want to try some sushi for the first time)


Restaurants we'd like to try (need to use 5 more DDP table service credits)

Shutters @ CBR (our resort, we're thinking of doing dinner here on the night arrive, but we aren't sure whether we should use a dining credit or not)
Planet Hollywood (we're thinking of a late dinner (8 or 9pm) hre on our day of from the parks)
San Angels Inn Restaurante
Liberty Tree Tavern
Restaurant Marrakesh
Coral Reef Restaurant
Hollywood & Vine
1900 Park Fare (Breakfast)
Boma

We have no interest in Signature dining this trip, but character meals are OK, any other suggestions are welcome (we have already done Crystal Palace nd we want to try something new this time)

NOTE: these restaurants are from the 2010 DDP restaurant list and I know they MIGHT change for 2011

My votes are for Coral Reef and Boma. Love both of these restaurants. Congrats on your honeymoon!

If you are going to Teppan Edo just to try sushi for the first time, you might actually want to go to the California Grill instead. The CG's sushi chef is one of the top sushi chefs in the country.

Boma is a must. I wouldn't bother with Planet Hollywood since its chain, and not a Disney specific resteraunt. Also, I wouldn't bother with Hollywood & Vine, I don't think the food is very good.

i would say to do shutter since it is at your resort the first night and you can relax to get there after the flight and all that. we like the liberty tree and boma.

I vote for CR, Boma and San Angel Inn and add Ohana!

CR, SAI and Ohana is so beautiful and romantic while Boma has great food and AKL is beautiful and so nice to visit!

We did all of them on our honeymoon!

First off, Congrats on the Honeymoon and such.

i would say to do shutter since it is at your resort the first night and you can relax to get there after the flight and all that.

Since Shutter is at your resort, I agree with this post (I have not been there so other than it being your home resort restaurant it is worth a try).

As for the rest of your want to try lists, the only 2 I would suggest are Boma and 1900 PF.

Also, keep in mind that breakfasts tend to be less expensive (they don't really have much bang for the buck on the dining plan). So if you end up going over on the amount of ADR's/TS credits, don't drop any and just pay for a breakfast or 2 OOP (afterall, it is your honeymoon).

NONONO on Planet Hollywood. The food is really not that good... almost bad. There are so many other options at WDW that you should try b4 you resort to Planet Hollywood--- places that are out of the norm and fun experiences that you'll only get at Disney. That can't be said for PH.

I would say definite yes to Boma... you'll love it. Coral Reef is a yes too

Skip Planet Hollywood; it's mediocre and crowded. If you want to eat at DTD there are a ton of better choices. If DDP is the issue then eat counter service at DTD & save the credit to use at a better restaurant. For example, save it for sushi & dinner at Cali Grill (fabulous!!!!).

Shutters dinner on arrival night sounds perfect!

Planet Hollywood - I'd skip this one. Nothing special at all, and I've read a few bad reviews.

San Angels Inn Restaurante - We have had some amazing food here, and the setting is very romantic.

Liberty Tree Tavern - not bad, but not my first choice either.

Restaurant Marrakesh - You should give this a try. We really enjoyed it.

Coral Reef Restaurant - If you've never eaten here, it's a must do. Just ask for a table beside the tank when you check in. We always tell them that we are willing to wait as long as it takes to get one. It is DEFINITELY worth it. The feel is completely different at the tables far away from the tank.

Hollywood & Vine - I've read so many TERRIBLE reviews that I'd be afraid to try this one.

1900 Park Fare (Breakfast) - We've only been here for dinner, so I can't really give advice on this one, but it would be low on my list compared to your other choices.

Boma - Again, we've never been here, but I'd love to try it!

I agree with Boma and Coral Reef.

If you really want sushi, consider Kona or the sushi bar right outside the restaurant.

If you want to try sushi I would try Tokyo Dining it's the sushi place housed with Teppan Edo. We really liked it, had some good sushi and loved the tempura.
We found Hollywood and Vine to be mediocre. The food was just okay and there wasen't as much selection as some of the other buffets we tried.
My IL's loved Retaurant Marakeesh and it looks different and intersting. It's on our list for next time.
Boma looks good or I've heard nothing but good things about Sanaa so you could check that out.

Planet Hollywood (we're thinking of a late dinner (8 or 9pm) hre on our day of from the parks) wouldn't do this place --loud & typical sports-bar-type food, not worth the noise level, IMO If you're wanting a DTD restaurant using dining credits, I'd go to Wolfgang Puck Cafe or Raglan Road...good food, better atmosphere.
San Angels Inn Restaurante loved this place -- good food and so romatic decor. Great sangria, by the way
Liberty Tree Taverntotal waste of money, IMO...dinner is just a "thanksgiving style family dinner" It was OK when it was a character meal, but with no characters, not good enough
Restaurant Marrakesh never been to the TS, but we like their Counter Service so I assume food is good there
Coral Reef Restaurantwe liked the food here, and love the aquarium view
Hollywood & VineNEVER again. dinner a couple of years ago was OK but place is very loud/busy and slow service. Had breakfast buffet there in May...horrible service & just so-so food.
1900 Park Fare (Breakfast)haven't done breakfast here, but we enjoyed dinner...the stepsisters are a hoot
BomaHATED dinner...over-spiced/oddly-spiced (like cinnamon-red-hots flavored ribs?) or completely bland. Also packed, and kids sticking fingers in the food.Yuck. However, we loved breakfast here --wonderful variety, no crowds, excellent service.

Thanks everyone...especially for agreeing with what I'd been telling DFi about Planet Hollywood. Alas *sigh* I have lost this argument as he has never been to a PH and i made the mistake of telling him what they're all about. BUT it might be a trade off for a night in a park view room at the BLT, so it might be worth it lol.

We have definitely decided to Boma and i was thinking about the Hollywood & Vine Fantasmic! package. is doing a package really worth using a dining credit though? If we do this it will be at Hollywood & Vine...another DFi pick
