Restaurant.com: Qualifying spend?

I have been reading the conditions of use on one of my Restaurant.com certificates which has a minimum spend of $35. It says "Tax and gratuity added prior to discount". So do I understand this correctly that if we spent $30, they would add the gratuity, then tax, which would bring it up to over $35, thereby achieving the minimum spend to qualify to use the certificate?

I would imagine this isn't a common problem but with one adult and one child we are unlikely to order dessert and it may take a little more work to hit the minimum spend. It would probably be better if I had an idea in advance so I could keep in mind during that day that we will be ordering more than we might usually do.

Thank you to anyone who can shed some light on this. :goodvibes

1) No.
2) The "spend" base amount is before tax & gratuity.
3) They do not want to match a discount against tax & gratuity, but against other food.
4) The base amount varies based upon the eatery and the certificate amount.
. . . some are $25 base for a $25 cert
. . . some are $35 base for a $35 cert
. . . some are $50 base for a $50 cert
. . . etc

Wow, you are quick!!!

That's great, thanks. I had always been under that impression, but reading over it last night I wondered if I had interpreted correctly. I shall just make sure we are very hungry - or better still, order a glass of wine :) or two if the bill requires

This one is for HoB and I know it is $35 spend for a $25 certificate. It was just how they arrived at the pre discounted total that I started to question.

Thank you for your help

Most of the $25 ones say you have to spend $35 or $50 before taxes and gratuity, they usually say they'll add 15%-20% on for the tip.

A couple things to be aware of:

-Alcohol may or may not be included in the amount
-They may or may not add the tip on for you (usually 18%)
-Print out your cert as soon as you buy it. Sometimes the rules change.
-I have been under the amount at 2 locations and they still took it, but do not count on it.
-I have been using these certs for years and have never had an issue using one of the certs, I know some people don't trust it.
-They do limit you to once a month, but I have never seen that enforced - YMMV

Thank you Tony67. :)

That is interesting about printing straight away. I never thought of that. I have mine printed but just bought one for someone else so I will be sure to print that one asap. :thumbsup2

I know I can always ask when we get there if I need any futher clarification. It was simply a case of the way the terms were worded that prompted me to check this one.

You can sometimes order a dessert etc. to go, to bring your minimum up. I have done this without any problems in the past. Just ask.
