Since they are at 80% off I was thinking of getting a $25 gift certificate for my BIL who lives in Minneapolis. I was just about to add it to my cart when I noticed that the price for a $25 GC at the spot I was thinking of getting was $20! :headache: Some are still $10 but others have creeped up to $15 or $20. Also alot of resturants now require that you spend $50.

Did you apply the discount code after you put the certificate in the cart. You have to put in the code, update your cart and THEN it comes up at the reduced 80% off price. I've bought a few of the $20 and it was still 80% off, even thought it wasn't a $24 certificate.

80% off $20 is $4.00. 80% off $10 is $2.00. So the certificate is now $2 more expensive. Not a huge amount, but still. The $20 is the regular sale price. In other words, if you don't use a code you only save $5.

I think I've bought my last GC from there. It's seems fewer restaurants take them, and those that do have so many stipulations, that is almost doesn't seem worth it. I hate having to add a dessert or something I don't even want just to meet the minimum check amount.

Yes - put in the code and you should get the coupon for less money. You really do need to check the "fine print". Alot have you spending a high minimum and some black out times. we do like these but you really need to check.

Or, it can be considered, "Even if you don't use a discount, you still save $5". Money's money. Saving is saving.

Then, obviously (as in, yes, I know you know ;)) restaurant.com gift certificates are not appropriate for you. Doesn't mean they're not still a good deal overall, especially if the buyer is aware of any conditions/stipulations. Few places around here, but I use them a lot in Las Vegas.

I really agree that the GC are a pretty good deal. When DH and I go out, we usually split an appatizer, then 2 entrees, share a dessert and we're always at $35.

DH and I weren't going to do gifts for his sister and my sister, but we bought each one a GC, printd it out and plan on giving a little explanation note, along with a free babysitting coupon. Both places they have to spend $35, so $10 plus the tax tip. I think getting a $35 meal for $15 is a pretty decent gift, especially since they both eat out quite often.
