This is one of the few restaurants we haven't tried in WDW and were thinking about it in July (the poor itinerary planners are probably going to want to kill me for changing several seatings a month before we go). We love a variety of foods but were concerned with the quality and authenticity of the food, as we usually do not do buffets. I'd love some comments! Thanks in advance!:D

Quality of food is excellent. There is only a cold buffet (which includes a variety of fish dishes such as herring in cream sauce as well as cold cuts and salads). The hot foods are brought out to you. You order off a menu, but can have more than one item (just not at once). Lunch is your best value.

Its our favorite restraunt. Only dh and I will eat there. We are not norwegian, but have been to norway, so the food is very authentic, the servers are friendly. The cold buffet does have alot of fish, dh proudly told me he ate all 6 varietys of herring this time. Not for me, I stuck to the other offerings, cheeses, breads, the pasta salad was delicious. For lunch I enjoy the lamb and cabbage, for dinner I had the crisped chicken, dh shared some salmon with me - excellent and for his hot meals he chose the mackerel and trout. I cant remember which was offered at dinner or lunch. I asked for a second serving of the viking favorites which we shared, They actually consider these as side dishes served with your hot entree. You get sweedish type meatballs, in a brown sauce, mashed turnips, excellent and sauteed vegetables like zucchini and squash and carrots I think. For dessert we shared the berry cobbler and chocolate mouse, both excellent. Its worth a visit. You wont be disappointed. You are not rushed and the atmosphere is very nice and quiet.

We tried Akershus several years ago and found it "not to our liking." This is not for any reason other than that the style of food is just not our cup of tea.

I must say that the qualitly of food, service and atmosphere were all top-notch. And there has never been any debate about the authenticity of the food at this restaurant; it is definitely authentic, and a great value! I think you should try it and decide for yourself. The male friends I was traveling with thought the waitresses were especially nice!;)

We liked Akershus, too. Mostly for lunch. With our picky kids, it worked ok, because they had bread, cheese, and meat that was of the plain variety (suitable for making sandwiches). Otherwise, we usually eat at the Land with them and that has very little atmosphere. The bakery at Norway is one of our favorites!

Do they have a separate kids' menu or do the kids have to eat off of the buffet?

There is a separate kids menu and also a kids' price for the buffet. One of my boys doesn't care for the restaurant, but we got caught in a huge rainstorm last summer and he was more or less forced to go there with us. Although he was a teenager, he ordered a grilled cheese sandwich from the kids' menu. It came with goldfish crackers and grapes.

My dh has been to Scandinavia and finds the restaurant to be very authentic. One of our servers told us the potroast was just like his mama's but that they would never eat shrimp with cocktail sauce in Norway -- said they eat them on a sandwich with mayonaise.

Although you can get as many hot entrees as you want now, I think it would be a little odd since they bring them to you one at a time. It would make for a very long meal if you wanted to eat several things. I had the crispy chicken with a berry drizzle, and it was very good. Servings are sort of small, though, since you can get additional courses.
