Hey, I just ate at R.A. this evening, and I wanted to make sure everyone knew just exactly what has changed.
Dan Z. made mention of it in his recent post, but I had read other posts in the past that were a little inconsistent (and quite honestly, when I sat down I had a hard time understanding the new setup... the poor seater had to repeat himself 3 times before the light finally clicked on.) It is now Buffet/A' la carte.
The cold board is the same, Salads, Seafood, Meats and Cheeses, Peel and Eat Shrimp. Soup and breads are off to the side.
The hot entrees are served A' la carte.
It is ALL all-you-can-eat!
It is ALL one price!
When you sit down, the server takes your drink and entree order, and you help yourself to the cold board and soup. By the time you've finished your first plate of goodies/your cup of soup, your hot food comes out hot, fresh, and beautifully presented.
This new serving system allows them to plate the food a bit differently. For instance, I had the venison stew (would have had the chicken as well, but I hit the shrimp and salads pretty hard and didn't have room)... anyhow the plate of stew now has plenty of vegetables and meat --no longer at the mercy of whoever was in front of you-- and is served with two blueberry biscuits on top. I wasn't sure about them at first, but they are very good with the meat and vegetables (think "white lilly 'drop' biscuits" that just happen to have blueberries in them). They were so good that I got three for the road instead of ordering dessert.
So, Akershus is still a buffet, still one price, still great food, but now the hot items are fresher and more attractive.
