We had not eaten here for a few years. (And that was our only time.)
I had read the serving had changed since our visit a few years ago, when all their food was buffet.
The food and service is still very good. :)

Now they offer all you can eat cold buffet and hot entrees from the kitchen.
The cold buffet has a lot of selection. More than I expected, since they serve the hot food separate.

Guests can eat all they care to from the cold tables and order all they want hot from the kitchen selections.

After the cold food, DH started with Grilled Atlantic Salmon (with roasted garlic custard and mustard dill sauce).
He said it was excellant. :)

The hot food I ordered was Fresh Poached Cod (with horseradish mashed potatoes). It was VERY good. Not fishy tasting at all. LOVED the potatoes.
Looks bland, but very good. This dish even had some itsy bitsy shrimp in it. :)
DH later followed up with the Venison Stew. He remembered how good that was from before, and he was not disappointed.

There were six choices of hot dishes from the kitchen -- including side dishes of Hearty Viking Favorites. (Seasoned veggies, boiled potatoes, mashed rutabaga, meatball).
I ordered one of everything of the Viking Favorites and split it with DH.
Guests can do that, or just order a side or two.

We were too full for dessert.

Very good place to eat. I seldom see it busy and not sure why. I think people who don't like fish stay away. But Akershus offers peel and eat shrimp, roast beef, ham, tuna salad, chicken salad, etc on their cold tables.
Their sweet goat cheese is great! :)

The only thing I could say against it -- and hardly worth mentioning -- was the hot food I had was not hot. Barely warm. But not hot. That didn't bother me much. I just ate that first! ;) The fish was at least hotter than the Viking Platter.
I am sure if I mentioned it, the waitress would have scurried and brought out hotter food.

The food from the kitchen is just smaller portions than if you ordered a regular meal. That way guests can keep on ordering what hot food they want and still get a variety in if they care to.

I overheard the group at a table next to us order mac and cheese for their little daughter.

Thanks for the great review. As a rule we do not eat at Buffets, but this one sure does sound good, maybe we will have to give it a try.

Akershus is one of my favorites. I especially like the new set up. The plated portions are small enough that I don't feel wasteful. Venison Stew is even better with the new arrangement, because it comes with those wonderful berry biscuits!

Thanks for the great review! This is one of the few WS restaurants we haven't eaten at and I had concierge book it for us in July. I'm happy with my choice now!

Good information,I enjoyed reading.::yes:: :wave2:

Thanks for your review. I haven't been back since they changed the buffet. Sounds like it is still very good!

Thanks for the review. I think we'll try this on our next trip. I know DH will love it and I'm happy that they have a kids menu. I think my kids would love the atmosphere in Germany but they don't have a kids menu.
