One word, COMPASSION. Having compassion doesn't mean you agree with someone, it just means you FEEL something. I think from viewing most of your posts, you lack that. Life isn't black & white. There is alot of gray out there.

I have compassion for those who wish to help themselves, not for those who give up. I work for two large volunteer organizations as a Board Officer, I have compassion, it's just defined by those who choose to get help and accept their fate as one they can help shape.

Why is it everything you say comes out as boasting, bragging or
self-aggrandizing back patting?

I've notice it almost every one of your post I happen on.
Just curious.

Compassion is just something we have.

From wikipedia:
"Compassion is a human emotion prompted by the pain of others. More vigorous than empathy, the feeling commonly gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another's suffering. It is often, though not inevitably, the key component in what manifests in the social context as altruism. In ethical terms, the various expressions down the ages of the so-called Golden Rule embody by implication the principle of compassion: Do to others what you would have them do to you. [1]

The English noun compassion, meaning to suffer together with, comes from the Latin. Its prefix com- comes directly from com, an archaic version of the Latin preposition and affix cum (= with); the -passion segment is derived from passus, past participle of the deponent verb patior, patī, passus sum. Compassion is thus related in origin, form and meaning to the English noun patient (= one who suffers), from patiens, present participle of the same patior, and is akin to the Greek verb πάσχειν (= paskhein, to suffer) and to its cognate noun πάθος (= pathos).[2][3]"

It's not meant to boast at all, sorry the form of my communication allows for you to interpret it that way, I will do my best to reposition my statements going forward. As a side note, holding a purely volunteer position with any organization (I receive no compensation) really shouldn't be viewed as boasting and I would never interpret someone saying to me that they hold similar roles as that, rather it might make me get a better feel for who they are as a person.

All the same, it was more as a point that I hold these roles within these organizations to help define policy and organizational direction, these organizations exist to help those who seek to help themselves, they do not freely exist to just offer free for all.

People addicted to crack cocaine or crystal meth, they do need help. But they do have to want it and even after rehab, most people relapse more than once. I don'[t see many of ythem blaming others for the addiction. Sure, maybe someone started you smoking hash or meth or shooting herion, but after the first couple of time, most addicts will tell you they wanted to keep going. No one was forcing them.

If Cory did OD or not, it is still sad. He was 38, much too young to die, much too young to leave his parents. No matter what, there are people who loved him and he is gone.

... So the story you told about taking a friend out for her birthday and included how much money you spent - was because why?
Doing your part to simulate the economy?

The thread title was Splurge not to Splurge...that in some way denotes that the topic at hand will probably contain some evidence that there is going to be talk about spending money or budgeting (or a combination of both).

Looking back at the post, I definately could have toned down the explanation, but in some ways, I am excited I was able to do it for her as a graduation gift and that excitement comes out.

To be honest, I think there is sometimes a pack mentality with some of the more common posters in this subforum, these are people that I am sure get along great because they carry similar mindsets and interests but it has been seen a few times that others who do feel put off often don't post in this subforum anymore for that reason.

This thread has run it's course....

Just one housekeeping issue......

Mother told me this story years ago....

If you're going to call the sheriff about the trash in your neighbors yard, you might want to run the mower over your grass, pick up the weeds, and tidy up a bit!
