Ressies if we stay more than 7 nights . . .

We've had many wonderful DVC stays - but we've never stayed more than a week! We are considering adding a day for our 2012 trip - but realized I don't know how to make that ressie! I know at our 11 month window we can book 7 nights - but then what? Do I have to wait until 11 months before that 8th day to call back and add a day? Does this question even make sense?

And now that I am actually having to think about it - what is the purpose of this policy, exactly? I know there must be a reason, but for the life of me can't think of what it is! :-) Any input appreciated!

Under the old rules those of us who are planners and wanted to ensure availability called day by day until we had all the days. I don't think DVC has officially stated a reason for the rule change to allow 7 days at once but I think most assume it was two fold, convenience and phone call volume ($$$). There really is no downside to the program. Some were concerned about availability for THEIR time but this seems to have not been the case except for things that were already an issue like AKV concierge. One you have the 7 days, you just call back later in the week and make the rest of the days needed for 7 to 7 days total from that call. Say you need 10 days. You call and book 7 then call back in 3 days and book the other 3.

Too funny, I just call today to book at my 11 month, and will have to call back tomorrow for the 8th day.

Hmmm. Interesting. Looks like I will be in the same boat as Pirate Granny - calling for that precious 8th day one day after my 11 month window opens. Seems a little odd, but who am I to criticize? If Disney tells me to do it, then I shall! Whatever it takes to get the job done! :)

You don't necessarily have to call the next day. If you are calling initially at 11 months out to the day and have the 7 days, you are assured of availability until MS opens for the 11 mo window for any additional days. Assuming something weird doesn't happen such as you abut a rehab schedule or some similar option that takes units off line the very day or days you need.

I call at the 11 month window and then every day thereafter until the reservation is completed. This coming November we needed four rooms all having varied length of stay (from 7 to 15 day). Didn’t want to take that chance something might get screwed up over the Thanksgiving holiday. It also gave me something to do daily.

If it is not one of those really hard to get reservations you can call on the 11 month date for day 2 and make the whole reservation at once. If you are trying for CL level at AKV or over the Thanksgiving week through NYE at VWL or for F&w at BWV or BCV you may want to call on day one and then later in the week for the last day.

THere is no reason to call daily to extend a reservation, once the initial 7 day reservation has been made. That room can not be placed back into bookable inventory until 11 months from your initial check-out date. Simply call any time before you reach the exact 11 month mark before your extension date.

For instance, if you want December 1 to December 10, call January 1 to book the nights of December 1 to December 7, then call on or before January 6th to book the 8th, 9th and 10th. AFter all, you already have the room booked for the first 7 nights, no one, except you, can call and book it until it returns to bookable inventory for the 8th night.
