Ressies at VGF

Hello everybody. We are new and considering buying into VGF. I was hoping to get some opinions on what people think will be the difficulty reserving VGF if it is NOT your home base. If we buy someplace else would we ever be able to stay there at a reasonable time of the year? I know this is an unanswerable question because of the variables but your experience in this matter means a lot. Thanks in advance for any responses.

In my opinion I believe that it will be impossible to obtain a reservation in a studio at the 7 month window as there are only 47 studios. I think that there may be 2 bedrooms available for two reasons, the number of points required and the fact there are 47 dedicated rooms (47 locks offs, 47 dedicated 2 bedrooms, 6 grand villas). We purchased 150 VGF and it really does not go far in a 2 bedroom. When we go we will plan to just do a studio.

Without a track record, it's hard to tell. VWL is a small resort, and it really isn't that hard to get reservations there. It just doesn't seem to have the appeal. Now, I love VWL and can't imagine wanting to stay at VGF - especially with the point premium (I'd like to stay at the Grand Floridian for a romantic getaway with my husband when the kids go to college, but to me, that's a hotel trip, not a timeshare trip). With it being a new resort, VGF will have at least a few years of heavy popularity, but if it retains that in five years is anyone's guess (and probably depends on what happens at the Poly - I'll bet whatever happens at the Poly that will be a popular resort and hard to book, but if it has ample rooms, it may pull some demand off VGF).

I think it really depends on what accomodation you plan to stay in.

Once VGF is close to sold out, I think it will be really, really tough if not impossible to book a studio of either view at 7 months, especially during the more popular times. It is the smallest DVC (by # of rooms) at WDW.

There are only 47 total possible studios and they will go fast. Also take into account that not all 47 will be available to book even at 11 months due to fixed week owners.
Forget about ever getting a studio during a popular time like early December as those fixed weeks are already bought heavily and the remainder will be booked at 11 months by VGF owners.

Other options like 1 and 2 bedrooms and GV will be easier I think with the high point requirements. There is some serious point inflation on those categories compared to other resorts. I think a lot of VGF owners will only rent those by banking/borrowing for trips every 2 to 3 years.

If you want to stay in a studio at VGF on other resort points, do it now. Once it's sold out in say a year or so, it will be much more difficult or near impossible at popular times.

I agree. I suspect it will follow BLT. Demand will be high because it is new and hard to get. People gravate to things that are in demand, thus making it more in demand. But as already stated, I think the high point premium will keep people away. As time goes, it will be easier to get ressies. Peak times will still be peak time however, so getting somthing for Christmas will never be easy at 7 months.

There is no valid track record yet. With only 47 studios and probably more skewed demand toward studios than other resorts because of the high point costs for VGF in general, I would guess that studios might often be difficult at 7 months out many times of year similar to BLT standard and BWV standard and boardwalk view rooms. Otherwise, for other size rooms I suspect it will follow a pattern similar to BLT (other than standard), BWV (other than standard and boardwalk view), and BCV, in that the time between end of Sep and Marathon weekend in Jan will often be difficult for anything, while it will be fairly easy the remainder of the year.

If Bay Lake Tower is any indication, I think it will be hard if not impossible...at least for the first few years until everybody had had a chance to at least sample it

I think it will get harder as more sells until the newness is gone.

I do think 1 bedrooms will be the easiest. There are NO dedicated studios, only 47 2 bedroom lock offs, which are going to become 47 studios and 47 1 bedrooms on day 1 of an 11 month window.

Looking out 7 months from today, there is availability.

I agree. I'm a west coaster and don't travel to WDW often so I decided to grab VGF availability for the Princess 1/2 marathon because by the next time we come back and it's closer to selling out it may be harder to get.
