Response from DCL about the CG problems

Kudos Toadman... Victory at last :)

Don't hold your breath for those apologies... you'd pass out I'm afraid.

Thanks! And I agree, some people are so brain-washed by the Disney "magic" they fail to see that Disney is just another huge corporation attempting to make a profit. And nothing more; at least not since Walt died. I remember enjoying WDW when I was young but my recent trips with kids from the home were nothing but days of very long lines and grossly outdated effects.

The cruise ship was beautiful and the service overall wonderful, but I've read equally great reviews about RCCL and their Voyager class ships. Now that the dd has found picts of the Navigator of the Seas and their VERY sophisticated teens disco room with lighted dance floors, etc, she might even become a Disney defect! :) Their teen room is probably 5 or 6 times the size of CG *AND* they separate the teens into age groups!

But the question in this thread is whether any other cruise line would have handled a customer complaint with such thoroughness and no corporate cover-up. In that area, I think that not too many firms would have responded as did DCL.

Hello toadman,

I was able to catch up with your original post recently. It was upsetting to read some of the reactions. I never doubted anything you stated in your post. There was something about the way it was written.... from the heart and very sincere.

Thank you for alerting us to the CG situation. This concerns me very much as my teen will be on the younger end of the CG crowd. I am pleased that your daughter confided in you and appreciate very much you warning us.

It would be nice if Disney had some sort of gathering for adults travelling alone. Not everyone travelling alone is a single parent. There must be aunts, uncles, grandparents etc who travel alone with children or adults who travel by themselves who would enjoy meeting others at the beginning of the cruise without feeling like they are a contestant on the dating game. :P

All that said, I am satisfied with Disney's response. I hope they continue to monitor CG and do whatever is neccessary to keep these types of things from happening again.

TT

It would be really, really great if Disney and DCL would take the wishes of many in this forum and split the teens into TWO groups. 13 year olds really dont need to be hanging around with 17 year olds, imo. As the following demonstrates:

We finally got our cruise picts developed today and there was a pict of a girl fully mooning the rest of the teen crowd. This was during the Wild Side teen beach excursion. Just a heads up for your young one as the picture was full of other teens, boys and girls of all ages but no CMs in sight. The girl wasn't one of mine but based on what I could see she appeared 15 or older. Ughhh! Another reason to split these kids up. I guess I could post her pict and the parents on that cruise could try to identify her by her butt and bathing suit! :) Anyway, needless to say, that pict is in the trash.

Ditto, again. There is a "singles mingle" but I didn't stay very long at all and according to the bartender of the Cadilac Lounge whom I spoke with later in the cruise, his place was full of single moms who had also left the singles mingle early.

Thank you Toadman. My son was one who did confirm what your daughter had told you. I also felt that some people on these boards (especially the debate board - YIKES!) did not believe it. I knew my son was telling the truth, why would he lie about this? Even though I love DCL, mistakes are made. I am glad they resolved the problems and got back to you with a phone call instead of a letter. That showed class. So again, thank you for bringing this to our attention and to DCL's, and thank you for posting their response.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise! I'm sure you will find plenty to keep you busy on the 7 night. Have you thought about taking a family member or friend that is closer to your age? Or, maybe just taking your daughter so you could spend more time whith just her. Let's see, I'm available then, maybe I could go? Just kidding.

Have a great time!

Yeah, as the picture from the teen beach shows, things were a little out of hand on that cruise.

I agree. A letter is so impersonal and a phone call allows for questions and feedback. And this was from the director of youth activities herself so I was impressed with the reponse. A lot of class indeed! The mere fact that they verified the alegations following their investigation says a lot for their character.

Well, there is this one single mom that my sister had been trying to hook me up with..... But I've been out of the saddle so long, I've forgotten how to ride! :)

What picture was that? Just curious.

Mentioned a few posts ago in this thread. It was some girl bent over mooning the other teens. Not realizing, of course, that when a girl bends overs like that, that more than the moon is visible. Since she was posing for a camera, I'd assume it was a dare or something like that.

My dd will be 13 on our next cruise so from the bottom of my heart THANKS Toadman for bringing this issue to light and not caving in to the "pro-Disney under any circumstances" crowd. I appreciate your efforts to get changes made to CG. An appalling situation for sure!

All I can say is continue to watch your dd as if she were at home. Don't make any assumptions because she is "supervised." If she is in CG, check up on her whenever you want if only to say hello and to let her know where YOU will be. And check the Navigator for the night of the Dating Game and make sure the younger teens aren't taking part. And apply the same dilligence when on Castaway Cay.
