Does anyone know if the Military Special Offer cover any resorts? Going with a retired military vet but he wants a theme park view room so Shades of Green won't work.

Plan as far in advance as possible. The last time we tried to get a military room discount all we could manage was a Port Orleans Riverside/Yacht Club split stay--no other Deluxe resorts were available. I think we planned about 6 months out.

If your aim is Deluxe resorts, renting points may actually be similar in price to a military discount. Renting points, you'll need to plan 8-11 months out if there is a specific room type you absolutely need. For example, a theme park view room may be tricker to book than a room in a resort where the common areas have a theme park view (I hope that makes sense)

Actually planning for December 2025 and the current offer is only through the end of this year. Not sure if the Tower at the Poly would be a good idea or just book a theme park view room. Don't know if the military rate would even cover the Tower. But a theme park view is on his bucket list so I guess he will have to decide whether it is worth the cost.

Hmm, my understanding is that the military discount is on the hotels rooms, not villas (aka DVC). If the tower is 100% DVC it may not have the option for military discount. But I'm just guessing here.

I would suggest a TPV room at the Poly, GF, or Contemporary (CR). I have a friend that has even stayed in a TPV CL room at the CR on a couple of visits. The Island Tower at Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will be in very short supply if the new tower is even included in the 2025 Discounts.

Here is the restrictions for 2024. The US Military discounts includes DVC offerings with a few exceptions:
  • Offer excludes the following Disney Resort hotels: The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
  • Offer excludes the following room types: 3-Bedroom Villas, Suites in Moderate and Deluxe Resort hotels, Cabins at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, The Little Mermaid Standard Rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.

What does the person want from a theme park view? The Poly and GF you will see the castle and the fireworks. Poly will be more of a straight view GF off to the right if looking at MK. CR on a high floor you will see more of the them park the fireworks while a different perspective I feel look the best with a side note even better from BLT but there is always the huge parking lot below. You may consider Club level as these will offer the best views from indoors especially at CR. My feeling is the new fencing has hurt the views at both Poly and GF especially on a lower floor with the exceptions of the Bungalows at the POLY.

The military salute room discount applies only to select rooms on certain dates and there’s no way to get that info in advance. The only way I know to find out what’s available is to call after the discount is announced and ask what’s available for the discount for the dates you want.

We have stayed in Theme Park View room at Contemporary with the Military Salute discount. I'm fairly certain the Military Salute is usually released/announced in November for the following year. I kept checking the Military Disney Tips site to see when the announcement was happening.

If I remember correctly, I was able to book a room only reservation with Disney and then call in the morning the Salute was announced to have it applied to my existing reservation (I could be remembering wrong, though). Either way, it was far enough in advance that I was safely within the cancellation window for the full price reservation.

Deluxe resort discount was about 25-30% off the regular rates. The person above also brought up a good point - the tickets and room discounts do end a few days before Christmas so if you are going in December be aware of that.
