If Disney thought a resort outside the U.S. would make money they would build one. Pretty sure they have investigated the possibility and found something lacking in the details. Although Aulani is very popular with guests, apparently is isn't selling as fast as Disney thought it would.

I think, generally, it does want make sense to purchase an, effectively, annual timeshare overseas where the cost and time required to get there is so much higher than a trip to Orlando.

Actually, Aulani opened on August 29, 2011. For those of us on the West coast, it is actually cheaper and easier to fly to Hawaii than it is to Orlando. Flights from the coast are almost all non-stop and fares are competitive. Now, Paris or China or other Asian or European countries is another story.
