Resort via RCI

Kind Folks,

Any guesses as to the likelihood of my getting a DVC resort for Thanksgiving 2017? I can get on a list now but am fairly new to Timesharing. I was told I can try up to 2 years out. Just don't know if its a huge waste of time.

there is a timeshare BB called tug2.net where you can also post. If you put in an ongoing search now (for higher priority) and are open to fri/sat/sun check in and can do a 1Br at SSR, then you have 40% odds, IMHO. 2BR, nil chance, only Sat check-in lower chance, other resorts much lower chance. For the past year, DVc has deposited mainly 1BR SSR, usually at 5 months out.
If you are open to other TS, such as Bonnet Creek, your chances are much higher.

The best hope of an RCI trade in generally requires date flexibility. For a major holiday, I do not like your odds.

I think for the right situation on the trade side would have a fairly high risk of success for a 1 BR at SSR, for anything else little to no chance. If it's on the weeks side you'll need sufficient trade power (TPU) and not be an Orlando area resort. If it's on the RCI points side you'll need sufficient points and no points from an Orlando area resorts. Mini systems like Worldmark, Hilton, Bluegreen and Wyndham are normally excluded from the area restrictions. I threw a 1 BR SSR resort back today for the week before Xmas. Certainly the earlier you start the further ahead you'll be on the list but there are other factors which I alluded to above.

Thanks for the replies. I am a Wyndham Owner. I called RCI Wyndham office and they said I to just get on the list. They could not offer me any odds of getting it so I figured I'd pick DISBoards collective intelligence

With Wyndham, you don't have to worry about where your home resort is, or TPU, because all Wyndham RCI transactions are done using a "fixed points grid." Here's a link to that grid: https://b2b.rci.com/post-wvr-en_US/home/wvr-exchange-points-chart.page

Where you own doesn't matter, because the local geographic restriction does not apply to Wyndham. Even if your home resort is Bonnet Creek right next door, you can still exchange into DVC.

You will need to start an ongoing search in RCI Weeks through the Wyndham portal. You will pay the RCI exchange fee when you start the search, but if you don't get a match you want, that fee can either be used later or refunded to you. You don't have to deposit the needed points into RCI until you want to confirm a match -- which is important because those deposits are irreversible.

As mentioned above, date flexibility is key to success -- especially at such a busy time of the year. Even a day or two can make all the difference, so I'd use as much flexibility as you can. You can always decline matches that you don't really love.

I would look both at the TUG Wyndham board and the TUG Exchanging board for advice on RCI exchanges. Lots of knowledgeable folks over there.

If you put Fri, Sat & Sun and start the request now for Nov, 2017 I'd say your chances of getting something between 2 & 6 months out for a 1 BR at SSR are extremely high. If you add any additional restrictions, your chances drop dramatically. Change of 2 BR likely close to zero, chance of different resort likely very low but OKW & AKV are possible.
