Just to let everyone know,,,I had reservations for POR for $99 per night and was upgraded to AKL for $127 tax included per night with a savanna view,,,,,,,,,not to bad I would say.:bounce:

how do you get an upgrade?
Do you think I'm too early to book for our Dec 2003 vacation, I'd love to stay at one of those Deluxe resort for about 150$ is it realistic ?
Thank you
Julie

The upgrade is because people who have booked a room at POR during the renovation need to be moved somewhere else. Often to make up for the change they will offer an upgrade for very little extra money.
If you are planning a Dec 2003 you can book anytime. If you are planning to book a room near the holiday itself you should book right now.
As far as price goes it depends what part of Dec you are going and if a discount is offered. I have never gone during the x-mas holiday but I bet $150 for a deluxe is nearly impossible. That is probably hard to come by unless you get a good discount.
I just checked the Annual Pass holders discount for the summer season and here are some examples of dicounts if you buy an Annual Pass.
Contemporary Standard Garden-$154
Fort Wilderness Cabin -$144
Animal Kingdom Standard $114 or Savannah $190
Old Key West Studio- $159
These are before taxes and you need an Annual Pass to get the rate. Hope this helps!

runhousemouse - when was your POR reservation for? Did Disney call you or did you call them? I've had a resv. since December for 7/24-8/2 at POR and have not heard anything as far as being moved.

My reservations are for June 23-July 1 2003. They called me about 6 weeks ago. As a matter of fact they called three days in a row sometimes several times a day until they caught me at home.

wow - I wonder what the reasoning is on moving some and not others? I called about a week ago and was told again that nothing was closed at all!

thanks for the info...we are planning a Dec 4th to 14th Disney trip (so that's right after Thanksgiving and before Xmas) I think this is the low season right then, am I wrong? Do you think it is worth it for me to get an AP just for this one trip? (Does a child AP qualify? and no we are not planning another Disney trip until Dec 2005) and how do I get one of those?
Thanks
Julie

That is so great runhousemouse! thanks for sharing that info!!!:smooth:

It is also nice to know that they keep trying if they dont reach you the first time:D

It is the low season but without the discout the deluxe rates are in the mid-200's to 300's a night. I think you should do some math to figure out if the savings is worth it before you get the AP. We recently took a big family trip and needed a 2 bedroom villa. It was also a 10 day trip. It did save us a ton of money for one of us to have the AP.
Here's what I would do: First find a hotel that meets your needs and just book it for December. This way if no discounts come out you still have a room booked in your price range. Keep an eye on www.mousesavers.com daily for AP discounts or regular discounts. If you decide to do an AP discount call and book it right away! Then call and order your AP. I didn't order the AP until after I knew I got the rate and hotel I wanted. This is OK to do as long as you have the AP at check in.
I do not believe that a child's AP counts however.
If you need more help let me know. As you can tell I am about to take a trip as well but not to WDW (more like labor and delivery world). I get a kick out of helping to plan other people's trips. If I can't plan one of my own this is the next best thing!
;)

thanks Samantha, I will keep an eye on the AP discounts as well as Canadian discounts. When we went it was buy one 7 day pass get a second one at 50% so it turned out good and I know the current special is Canadian dollar at par on moderate and value resorts, which would be fine also since we are a family of 5 needing either a deluxe room or two connecting rooms, but this special is good for travel dates ending Oct 31st...I'll have to wait and see what the next Canadian special is....
I will for sure try and contact you when I'm ready to start booking
Good luck with #2!!!
Julie

Thanks for the wishes! Just so you know POR used to allow 5 in a room with a trundle bed. They are the only moderate that does this I think. That may be one option. The other is to rent points from a DVC member and get a home away from home. It worked great for us and we saved tons of money on our last trip.

These are the options I have for my stay in September - 12 nights

1: Stay at POR which I love but rooms in need of renovation:(
2: Hope for a renovated room:p
3: Pray for a call and an upgrade:smooth:
4: Splurge on paying extra to upgrade to AKL:eek:

;)

I'm six weeks away now and plan on calling again at four weeks and asking a bunch of questions. I hope I get someone who knows whats going on.
