Has anyone ever been upgraded from a value to a moderate? What were the circumstances?

An upgrade like that would ONLY be fir operational reasons such as a resort not opening as expected or a refurb taking longer than expected.

if you want a Moderate resort, book a Moderate resort.

Not me personally, but I have friends who booked an All Star Resort, and ended up hating it. They spent a night there in a week long stay, then went down to the front dest to ask if they could switch to a moderate resort. They told the front desk they were willing to pay the difference in price, but they weren't charged. They were moved to POR and loved it!

I've always wanted to stay at Port Orleans Riverside. I love that resort. We usually stay at one of the All-Stars or Pop Century and we've never had a problem there. Ever. Although I've known other people who have. (knock on wood) We have not experienced any of those issues.

They were staying at Music and were in a really far out room. That was the only reason they hated it. POR has some really far out rooms too, but they were close to a bus stop at POR which made all the difference for them.

Ohhhhhh. I thought you were saying that they hated the room because there were room issues. 🤣 We actually prefer the rooms farther away. They tend to be farther from the noise of the pools and closer to the parking lots because after a very long day of walking in the parks and you're within sight of your room the walk from your car to the room can be the longest ever. 🤣

Thank you for the sage advice about booking a moderate resort if I want to moderate resort. I just asked a simple question. I didn't get hateful in my question and I didn't get snotty. It was just a question. If you don't want to answer it without passive aggressive responses then don't answer it. 😉

My reason for asking it was just out of pure curiosity. We're going again next November and the Caribbean Beach resort was the first resort we stayed as a family. Since this is quite likely going to be our last family trip to Disney I've thought about trying to stay there again but it's just too expensive. My question was just a sincerely curious question. But thank you for taking the time to give the response you did. 😳

Wow, sorry for the misunderstanding. I see you're new here. There are a LOT of posts where people are asking this kind of thing because they want to game the system - book low and get bumped up high. And unfortunately, many of them are new posters. So the question really raises alarm bells. I'm sorry I misunderstood.

But the bottom line is, as a rule it is not common. It seems to have happened more recently with COVID having closed a lot of the resorts and not all of them opening so people had to be relocated. As things get back to normal, I really would not count on being upgraded. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

And again, I'm sorry I misunderstood your intent.

EDIT - NM......I re-read your post and you are asking if anyone has been upgraded by DW from the Value to Moderate resorts. I will guess that it's possible to go from one Value to another value resort. But from Value to Moderate? I wouldn't think so given the costs.

I assume that you are also asking along the lines of what differences that you noticed going from a Value to Moderate Resort?

We stayed at the All Star Movies for one of our earlier trips to DW. All of the times after that, I decided ( just like you ) that we should splurge....so we ended up staying at CBR ( just like you ).

For me, there are a lot of things that I did notice that I ( as someone who purposely plans it so that the family spends time at the resort ) did appreciate. At Caribbean, I LOVED that you could do the following:

- Rent Bikes for the family to ride around
- Large Jogging path ( I'm a runner )
- A nice Table Service Restaurant
- Additional pools that you can swim at late at night
- Movie under the Stars
- Campfire at night

Moderate Resorts felt more like a Resort that had things to do as opposed to a large sprawling but fancy Motel ( which the Value Resorts can feel like ).

Of course, if you don't plan to spend any time outside of the 4 parks....then these additional amenities may not benefit you as much. But when I went with the family, I was able to enjoy many of these benefits. That's what you're mainly paying for.

I've also stayed at Port Orleans after going to the CBR twice. Although they are both Moderate Resorts, I liked Port Orleans better. The layout of the resort is better and I liked the design of the buildings.

Either way, enjoy yourself. It is definitely worth the additional cost.

Lol...I mean we got an insane upgrade from a value to deluxe - twice actually, but that was last year when all the insanity was going on and we just got REALLY lucky with a crazy set of circumstances for both times...but man it was nice :)

Other than Covid, no we've been upgraded resorts.

I was offered an upgrade from Pop Century to a tower room at Coronado Springs ahead of Marathon Weekend in 2020, and I turned it down. The reason we booked Pop Century was the Skyliner, so bus-only transportation at CSR would have been a downgrade.

Wow! I would have taken a tower room!

I have gone from one deluxe resort standard view room to 2 deluxe resort club level rooms. This was all due to a room booking issue and I wasn’t aware until I showed up at the resort and was met by a CM at my car that took us to the club level lounge to check in.

This was the only time I was upgraded at WDW. I did get moved from Movies to Sports way back in 1999 due to an entire building having plumbing issues. We were only staying a night and wanted to get to MK so we were fine with that move.

So, the only moves we have had were due to room needs, not really pixie dust.

We were upgraded from a campsite to Coronado for 2 nights when the campground was closed due to hurricane cleanup September 2017. As soon as campground reopened, we switched to Ft. Wilderness. We liked Coronado's double sinks and the classier theming, along with the water slide and table service restaurant. But we were traveling with a not quite 2 year old, who honestly would have rather had All-Star Movies for the in-your-face Disney characters, Fantasia splash ground, and walking distance to McDonald's.

We were upgraded from Pop to AKL bunkbed Arusha Savannah view (back when they had bunkbeds and that was a bookable view). We found out on check in, and it was amazing. I don't know what happened that they overbooked Pop, but it worked out well for us :) .

I had that room once. Omg what a long walk. I called it the Everglades view room. Add to that it was winter and we had a freezing downpour. We did try to actually add a day but they were sold out so we found a room at the Movies resort and were like wow the walk to the room is not as far as the Music. Back to the original question. Once we were switched because the resort was overbooked and we had a short stay.
