If Im right, and you are at your resort, and you have ressies for dinner at another resort, you have to catch a bus to a park and the catch another bus to that resort?

We would always take the bus from our resort to DTD, get off at the Marketplace stop and then wait for a bus to the resort we were going to. It does take time, we found that we had to allow ourselves at LEAST an hour. Most times it took a little longer then that.

This is the main reason we always choose to have a rental car. I know some people don't like to drive while on vacation, but it seems far less of a pain to us than fooling with resort to resort transport. We do use WDW transport as well. And once in a while when we are going to be consuming alcohol and it gets late we use a taxi.

I always suggest that if want to eat at a Disney resort plan on being in the closest theme park for that part of the day. It will make it SOOOO much easier than trying to get from resort to resort.

A great example is if you want to eat at one of the many restaurants in the Epcot resort area (Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin). You can walk to any of these resorts from the Epcot International Gateway in less than 10 minutes. The walk from the Studios is a little longer, but you can also take the Friendship boat over to these resorts. The Friendship boats run from Epcot to the Studios througout the day stopping at the Epcot resorts along it's route.

It's never a good idea to try to get from one Disney resort to another. Use a theme park as kind of a mid way stop.

A lot depends on the time of day and where you are going to/from. The main reason most people plan on using DTD as their hub for resort to resort transport is that it is open so late at night.

For example, if you are staying at Pop, and you want to go to Jiko for dinner, if you go the theme park route, you would think a bus to AK would be the thing to do, followed by a bus to AKL. But AK closes very early most of the year, so the park may not even be open when you GO to dinner, let alone when you're ready to return to your resort. But you can catch a bus from Pop to DTD, then DTD to AKL, until at least 1am.

It is better if you can plan your dining around the theme parks you intend to visit. Or, alternatively, plan them around parks that are having evening EMH, if you don't plan to go to the park. That at least means the transportation will be running later. You need to allow a minimum of 30 minutes for each connection you will be making. So if you are at a park and going to a resort, allow at least 30 minutes. If you are at your resort and planning to route through a park or DTD, allow a minimum of 60 minutes (30 to DTD, 30 from DTD).
