I had an e-mail from my TA at Small World and the resort tax in Orange County is going up 1%. Disney is going to add the tax on existing reservations that begin after 9/01/06.
This obviously has nothing to do with any of the travel agents or even if you booked yourself. I personally don't think it's right on an existing reservation. Again, not anyones fault. I just think it's a poor choice by Disney.

Why do you think it is a poor choice by Disney? If tax rates go up, Disney has to charge the correct rate.

What is the legal date of the new tax increase?

I think if someone has locked in a reservation and made their deposit the person is expecting that it's not going to change. I realize it's not that much money. It's the principle of it. Just my opinion.

Disney probably does not have a choice. My TA told me if I paid in full before 9/1/2006, then the rate increase would not affect my package. So I am thinking that if you complete your "purchase" after 9/1/2006, they must charge you the correct sales tax. I wouldn't want to see Disney get in trouble over something they cannot control.

I respect that but Disney doesn't have a choice. They have to pay the increased tax to Orange County as of September 1 (this appears to be when the increase happens). So, for any rooms occupied after September 1, the new rate is mandatory.

It isn't Disney's fault.

As I said in my original post it isn't anyones fault. I just believe it is a poor choice on Disneys part. I have my own business where I sell services at a set fee. Some people pay in advance or purchase gift certificates. The gift certificates are not in dollar amounts but are for a specific service. If my products go up in cost to me before they use the GC or before they use the pre-paid service then it's my problem not theirs. Again it's not the amount of money. It's the principle ot it. IMO

Well, it just threw me for a loop!

I just called and made reservations for June 2007 and I was quoted a rate that for the life of me, I couldn't reconcile.

Sure enough, they're still quoting 11.5% tax on 2007 reservations. CRO should be quoting the new rate, or they should at least tell people that the tax will be increasing.

It's no biggie, but I'm sure it'll confuse others who are booking today too.

Geez. Why does that not surprise me. They certainly should be giving people the new rate.
