Photomats:

mimumum of 2 layers, sized to fit a 4x6 photo -- which means your smallest layer is 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 (sometimes I do 4 1/8 by 6 1/8) the next layer is bigger.

Journal box: choose your writing area, for this example lets say it is 3x4. You will add two layers to that -- so the next one is say 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 and the next one is 3 1/2 x 4 1/2. You do have more leeway in the size of the journal box.

I will post photos of some photomats and journal boxes and leave the rest of the questions to Rebecca.

Photomats:
the one on the left, the white layer is 4 1/4 by 6 1/4 so when you put a 4x6 photo you will have a small white boarder or mat all the way around the photo -- this first layer does not have to be 4 1/4 by 6 1/4 -- it can be larger, but it can't be 4x6 or smaller

the next layer is black 4 3/8 by 6 3/8 -- this now meets the 2 layer requirement

the final layer is 5x7 and is not required

Also note that it is embellished, in the upper rt corner there is fiber and a brad and I also counted the zebra printed paper as an embellishement.


2nd photo mat (right side)

First, notice it co-ordinates but isn't exactly the same. When I did my first swap I made my photomats match exactly. Generally, most people make their mats coordinate ...but I don't know if that is a "rule"

Here the white layer is 4 1/4 by 6 1/4, the black layer is 4 3/4 by 6 3/4. two layers. I embellished with ribbon and brads -- the photo is able to slip under the ribbon. This is important to note -- if the photo could not slip under the ribbon, then the whole thing would have to be bigger.

see in these photomats with the bugs--The top photomat the light green layer is 4 1/4 x 6 1/4, the next layer I made big enough to accomodate the bugs so that the photo could be added without cropping. I think it is 4 1/2 by 6 3/4 or 7. Notice the bottom photomat does not have 2 layers -- this would not be something I turned in for a swap.



Tags:
I thik of it as one tag with a shadow -- so two layers
in the zebra set--I started with a white tag with a black shadow. I embellished it with the printed paper and the rub-on letters. Finally--notice the hole -- it must be filled in some way. With fiber, ribbon, brad, eyelet and whatever else I haven't thought of.

Journal mats

the light green box is the writing area, then 2 mats brown and then green. Embellished with the little plant and inked edges .

No not too plain. I like your colors. My question would be -- the Mickey head. It doesn't look like photo slips under it or fits next to it. If it does, then just disregard my next comments. You could use a pop dot to affix the Mickey in the corner of the dark blue mat or if there is enough room on the printed paper, in the corner of the printed paper, then the photo can slide under it. Does this make sense? If not, I just did something similar for my Polynesian mats -- I could post the photo if you'd like.

Ooh post. I love your stuff. The Mickey Head is a punch out. I just put a 4 x6
picture on top. If the picture is not cropped it will cover the head. Good thing I only made one lol. I don't want to make the mats too big. I just had a vision everyone recieving these huge mat layouts that take up the whole layout lol.

Cute stuff Susan - and I just realized that I have been cutting all of my photo mats (which I only do if it's a required element) for the base layer of 4x6 since I never don't crop a picture. So my apologies ladies for any coming to you in other swaps already at 4x6 but I will scooch them bigger next time!!

I do however make sure that the top mat is unobstructed so the picture fits.

On page one it says to stick to the color scheme, but it doesn't specify that we have to use Bazzill paper. Does that mean we can use other brands as long as they are good quality?

Hi. I have a couple of questions.

I'm doing photo mats for YC. Do I do 2 for each person? yes 2 per person

If there is only let's say 4 people in my group do I only do 4 sets?you only do them for the people in your group- so if there are 4 people in your group you would do 4 sets

Do the photo mats have to be bigger then 4x6?Susan addressed this very well

Do the mats have to be exactly alike for the sets or do they just have to match.the can be exactly alike or they can match. I generally make them matching- sometime switching which layer is the top and bottom and such, slightly different embellishments

Ok I think I went over a couple questions lol. Oh one more for now that is. I already have one done can someone check it for me to let me know if it's good enough or if it needs something else. Thanks. Sorry so many questions. I just don't want anybody to be disapointed.

We are happy to answer your questions. I am not staying on top of thingsquite as quickly with my new puppy but i will get better as he gets used to the house.

You may use any good quality paper, the point of the color scheme is so we end up with items we can use together on a page.

Ok I figured out the timing of everything and I should be able to do this as we should move into our new place and be all settled within two to three weeks...
I'd like to do Pop, Boardwalk, Old key west, animal kingdom lodge, movies, grand floridian....I need to figure out what elements...for the boardwalk I could try doing that paper piecing again if people don't have it already...you could PM me and let me know.

I planned on using solid colors myself but I don't want to limit something that might be perfect for the resort- I would say the one thing we might want to be careful of is using a variety of pp for our own elements or using pp that is really busy. I thought the photo mats with the pp that someone posted earlier were very nice- it was just a plain stripe. So the answer is you can use it if you wish but make sure that it won't overwhelm everything else and it sticks with the colors of the hotel.

Rebecca -- I am finished my photo mats for the Polynesian. I did use patterened paper. It is busy, but it is the top layer of the mat and very little of it will actually show once a photo is down. I'll try to post a photo tomorrow to see what you all think.
