Resort Swap COMPLETE

I wanted to see if this is an okay size for the topper - sorry it's a bad picture, I was trying to take it with a webcam, and the webcam showed it backwards, so I had to move it in the opposite direction... arg. Anyway. It's 5 inches wide and 5 tall with the turret. This okay?

I love it. I have SCAL and am too scared to learn to use it.

It's "Sure Cuts A Lot", and you can download it from a bunch of different websites - shop around for the best price, we got it for about 50$? But they just came out with a new version, which I think is more expensive. We'll be upgrading though - it sounds a lot better.

It lets you hook your Cricut up to your computer, and you can cut out different fonts and pictures, etc, so you're not just limited to carts. It's hard to learn at first (if you want to do pictures, you need to download a free program called "Inkscape" too.), but once you get the hang of it, it's really neat!

Is it similar to the Cricut Design Studio? I don't have that either, but I was wondering what the difference are and if one is "better" than the other?

Meg:flower3:

It is like Design Studio, but you can use any font on your computer with it (some weld better than others though). You can also cut all kinds of shapes. The Latte card I did for the card swap was a file that I cut with my Cricut using SCAL. I really like the versatility of the program (and being able to cut whatever I want). I think it's a good investment, and since the new version just came out, you would have a year or more before a third version comes out and you'd have to think about upgrading.

Unlike us, where we got it less than a month before the upgrade came out.... :headache:

Oh well. It works when we need it to - and makes swaps easier, instead of having to stick down over 100 individual letters to shadows and shadows to pages. (Too bad I didn't find out about it until after the ABC swap!) :rotfl:

Yeah, I got it in April. Still, I think they should have told us they were coming out with an upgrade, I may have waited and I may not have, but I would have been informed.

BTW, if you got if after 6/22, you can get a free upgrade, I think. Let me see if I can find the info.

OT- I just preordered Gypsy

Z2H and MM2000 - thanks for the info. I LOVE my Cricut. I have the first one that came out and haven't upgraded to the expression ---yet:rolleyes1

I've been mulling over the Cricut Design Studio, but it sounds like SCAL is better - being able to use any font or design you can find online. Have I got that right?

How easy is SCAL to learn? I'm very computer savvy and pick up on most programs without really having to read the instructions. The one program that I wasn't able to get the hang of - even after buying an $50 book of instructions was PhotoShop Elements.

How long did it take you to figure out SCAL?

I've had the program since April, I consider myself computer savvy, and I am still learning. You can download a free trial and test it out. It uses SVGs, which are edited with a program called Inkscape, a free downloadable program.

There are TONS of tutorials out there, and I really like the program, it just takes a little time to get the "steps" down.

Susie, where did you preorder the Gypsy from? I told DH I wanted one for my birthday (next month ;) ).

Hi,

Just stopping by to say I'm now back online with full net access (hopefully, assuming my wireless network doesn't randomly decide I can only go online via the laptop and not the desktop again!) Should be no problems getting my stuff done for group I!

Xxx

Good to hear from you Queenie? Does this mean you're settled into your new place? I forget the time line.

chiefdragon - your package arrived today. They're adorable! Thanks for the goodies!

I got some work done on a few groups today - 1 group completely finished, and 3 more have all the pieces cut, just need to be assembled. DH is going to a poker game tomorrow night, so I plan to hole myself up in my scrap room and get a lot done.

And here are some of my groups....

The POR frames are not 4x6 openings, they're smaller, so I included some screw brads and either a yard of ribbon or some flowers. I'm not sure how to make it fit a 4x6 photo, or if it's supposed to.

Yes we're in the new place, will post some pics this week. Only got the net back the other day and DH has been off work all week so we've been working on doing stuff rather than being online. It's really great, especially as I've now got a scrap room! :)

ZTH - very cute! The frames look good. The Sizzix and Cricut ones never quite fit a true 4x6 and that's fine.

Queenie - Yay for a scrap room!

I am cutting out All Star Movies, Music and SPorts today as well as Pop Century so I can glue them toggether later

I do not like that ACOT did not put the paper in the box in the order it is on the packing slip and it isn't labeled in any way.

UGH

My cricut just threw the mat and paper out in the middle of cutting. 2 sheets of blue paper were ruined in the process. I quit for the night
