Just got back last Saturday. I was very disappointed to find out that Disney no longer sells shot glasses or toothpick holders for their resorts. We stayed at the Boardwalk Villas and I wanted to buy one to add to my collection. I was told that they were no longer profitable.

WHAT????? I love their shot glasses! I have over 100 shot glasses in my collection and I believe over half of them are from Disney. Are they discontinuing the ones through out the parks too? or is it just at the resorts? I buy one every time I go especially at the resort I am staying. So disappointed :sad2:

They still have some in the parks. I got a Magic Kingdom 40th anniversary one.

I am totally jealous!!! I am really hoping to get there this year. I lived in Jacksonville for the last 8 years and went ALL the time but had to relocate back to Michigan last year because of my divorce and I am having serious withdrawals for Disney! LOL

The Disney suits in charge of merchandise have decided that "resort specific" souvenir items do not generate enough profit. That applies not only to shot glasses, but everything, even hotel logo clothing. So sad that the only thing that matters anymore to Disney management is how much profit they can make... where did the magic go?

Sorry that is my fault, I had to move from Florida and now I haven't been to Disney since last May and I always bought the resort merchandise. So now they are suffering a huge profit loss because I can't shop there right now! :rotfl: :lmao: I completely agree with you though on that, where did the magic go? I wish I could have the opportunity to work in Disney management. It would be a dream job and I would make sure things that Disney lovers like you and I love are still available. Not everything should be about the bottom dollar. I think they make up for it in other areas. Why take away from the people that still look for that merchandise?

I might be my fault as well. I started collecting the die cast ride vehicles. Poof...they are gone. Now the resort shot glasses. Anybody got anything they want discontinued? We are here to help. :headache:

awww that really stinks! I actually never buy the stuff but I completely understand why people do! And yes... Disney is supposed to be above and beyond everyone else with their MAGIC!!! This really sets them back in my opinion! How non-magical :confused3

What if...

There came a time when all souvenirs of your visit to Disney were marked both Walt Disney World and Disneyland?

The management of Disney are taught "It all started with a mouse". They are also taught that to keep your job, your department must make a profit.

Most of us on these boards know that it didn't start with a mouse, it really started with a man. His idea was to provide quality family entertainment. That built the company.

Perhaps today profit is the only way to be competitive in the theme park industry. Profit means survival.

I just hate to see "money" replace the "magic" of "Disney"....
