Sorry if this question sounds silly. Is there a way to ask for a free room upgrade at a Disney resort? I am going to stay at either the Floridian or Polynesian and when I check in I was going to ask if they could upgrade me to a castle view.

Thanks for your help.

Usually, if they have some open rooms with that view, they will give them to you at a free upgrade. If you really want a MK view, reserve it so your garuinteed to get it.

Thanks for the info Josh. Ok so when I check in I can basically just ask them if they will upgrade me?

Someone at the Allentown Disney meet last weekend told me that she asked for a room upgrade at Poly and was told they no longer give free room upgrades. She said she understood and asked how much an upgrade would cost? She was told $150 EXTRA per night for concierge. (She declined.)

I have never asked or received an upgrade, but from what I have read on the boards, it's just luck and pixie dust when you get an upgrade! Maybe it just depends on availability and the person working the check-in desk?

Thanks for the info Diz. I will give it a shot and see what happens. By the way the NJ Shore is awesome! We go down there all the time!

At CBR, when we checked in, I asked for a room in Jamaica (The Best Non Perfered Buildings), and the CM said "Ive got one much better then that!". He then gave us a Prefered Waterview room! If I were you, while checking in, I would ask if they had "any upgrades". Usually if they do, they won't charge you for them.

Are you planning on booking a garden view room at one of these resorts? Depending on season and occupancy, a complimentary view upgrade is not out of the ordinary. Sometimes it's even done by the room assignor before you check in. When you get to the registration desk, I would simply ask if any castle view rooms are available. You'll get 1 of 4 answers. Either it's a flat out "no" because of high occupancy, an offer to upgrade for the difference in room view rack rates, an offer to upgrade for a discount or a complimentary upgrade. Based on the answer you get, you can decide if it's worth it. This could be a double edged sword though. I'm not sure about the Poly, but at the GF, there are less than desirable castle views. Due to some foliage and fairly big trees, you could get your castle view, but it will be between a bunch of branches. If you had stayed with your garden view room, you could possibly have had an off center, but unobstructed view of the castle.

Just an FYI that sometimes you can make requests to your garden view room that will increase your chances of a castle view without paying additional. At the GF, you can request a marina view room in Sago Cay or Conch Key. The same price as a garden view and the castle could be viewable from your balcony. Corner rooms at the GF are slightly larger, have 2 balconies and will sometimes give you both a lagoon and garden view.

POLY has many more GV rooms than LV. I wouldn't count on a complimentary upgrade. You might not even be able to pay for an upgrade.

Complimentary upgrades are common at AKL. Very few rooms are in the standard category and unless the resort is sold out many guests get upgraded.

We are staying at BWI the first week in Aug.We have a standard room view.Is this a good view or should I ask to see if they have any upgrades. If so what should I ask for. We would like something where we could see epcot.

Tammi,

Thanks for the info. I actually did request the Marina view. Last year I did the same thing and they upgraded my room to castle view without me even asking. This is the first time I am considering asking for the upgrade. Should I call before hand to request the upgrade or just wait until check in?

Thanks again!

Instead of asking for an "upgrade," ask if you will be able to see the castle from your room. I know it's the same thing, but they might be more willing to accomodate you if it doesn't sound like your just trying to save a few bucks.

JMA, you should probably be fine then. If you call to upgrade, then chances are that your reservation will be changed to a lagoon view and you will be charged. I think Sherri put it very well, with just asking if you will be able to see the castle from your room. It really comes down to what the occupancy level is at the GF during your stay. Good luck.
