Resort regret?

I'm just wondering if anyone else suffers from it. We have booked an All-Star Suite for our trip next month. It was a spur of the moment trip, so we were trying to be as cheap as possible. We are a group of 6 so we either needed a suite or 2 rooms. Anyway, almost from the moment we booked, my sis has been having second thoughts, and now I am too.

I am looking forward to staying in the ASMu Suite, becuase it looks neat, and it is something we haven't done before. But we were strongly considering POR too. I have stayed there 3xs, my sister twice, and we both love it! My sister is NOT a Value girl at heart. However it would have cost about $500 more total for 2 rooms at POR than the suite at ASMu. So we booked ASMu. Now, I keep seeing posts from people who are going to POR, asking about the resort, and posting pictures. Now I feel like a big baby, but I wish we were staying at POR too!:sad1:

Anyone else do this to themselves? How do you get re-exicted for the resort you have booked?

We have stay at all types of resorts at WDW & enjoyed them all. IMHO Moderates are not that much better than the values alittle smaller, sit down resturant, Hot tub. I think the AllStar suites sound really cool. And for 500 bucks I think you made the right choice. you will have great time.

I mean who doesn't see the GF or Poly & think wow. But I think all the WDW resorts are nice.

For five hundred dollars it wouldn't be worth it to me. We just got back from Music, it was lovely. The newer rooms, the poolside movies they show at night all made it a cut above other value stays I have had. We honestly loved every minute there. And we spent a couple of our days just hanging out at the pool. I do have Resort Regret sometimes before the trip. Once I am there, I never look back and end up having a great time.

I do love POR too but honestly think you would enjoy Music more than you think. Its beautifully landscaped and with that money you save you could do other things.

Funny thing, I tried to move to POR a few weeks after I booked this Music stay. It was sold out. And I had forgotten all about it until I read your thread! Now I am so glad it didn't work out, we enjoyed our Music stay and the price difference was going to be something like $300 for the six nights. I used that savings to book the HDDR which was so fun. It worked out in the end for me, hopefully it will for you too!

You will have a great time! Remember: you will be at Disney :goodvibes .

I do the whole resort-regret everytime and second guess myself a lot. I get re-excited about our chosen resort by looking at pictures of it, reading about it, planning what to do while we are there.

Don't worry -- you will enjoy every minute!

yeah I agree for the money you saved the rooms aren't much bigger!! Plus how much time are you really going to be in the room??? pool four parks two water parks DTD and two putt-putt courses all you need is a place to crash!!

Honestly I did do that and it did affect my trip. I am one who does spend time at the resort so it does matter. I have learned to never make that mistake. Sorry but that is the truth as far as I am concerned.

We tried to book ASMu Suites for our upcoming trip but there was no availability. Instead we will be back at Pop. Which we love, but wanted to try something different.

I would move up to the MODERATE Resort--I think it would be
well worth it because as you know POR is a very beautiful & peaceful
resort. Just to have that type of setting to come home to after
a very busy day at the parks is something to look forward to.
Plus POR has a Hot tub to relax in after the parks. There are quiet pools.
A Boat Ride to DTD and so much more.

POR is not worth the extra money over ASMu. I've done POR once and ASMu three times. Save your money.:)

Regarding 'resort regret', which I think is an interesting phenomenon (and a little spot of masochistic behavior some of us go through).....

I don't have enough DW stays to specifically comment but as a regular Las Vegas visitor, I can say I sympathize in general.

It's somewhat similar in that you have off-strip hotels and strip resorts (ranging from 5-Diamond mega resorts to smaller lower key resorts). You think...if I stay here will I miss out on something there, ....comfort levels with places you 'know', and so forth.

Honestly, while I may experience a smidge of RR leading up and even during a stay, I always end up having a blast, enjoying the get -away for what it is. One can always find *something* to regret or bemoan or wish for elsewhere (grass is greener concept).

And for me, part of the fun in these repeat vacations is trying a variety of amenities (food, lodging, etc). I do have favorites but these trips have so much else going on that I don't let the hotel/resort be the end all be all. I tend to focus initially on a negative, but really, it would take a pretty catastrophic event to ruin a Disney/Vegas trip for me :) I think having kids has chilled me out significantly :rotfl2:

Disclaimer: The above statement does not in any way shape or form mean that I give up my supernatural gift which allows me to find something even ever so small to bi***, moan and complain about :mic:

We've stayed at many of the resorts on our trips and I understand how you feel. I wouldn't say it's regret though. We've taken trips where we didn't plan on spending much time at the resort and stayed at values and other trips we intentionally planned more time at the resorts when we were staying at the really nice ones.

I've always thought about how nice it would be to take a trip with only DH and stay at the Boardwalk. Well, we finally are going to take that trip and when it came time to book the room, at 365.00 per night, I just couldn't do it. It wasn't that we couldn't afford a few nights there and I still kind of want to stay there but I can't bring myself to spend that much money on just the two of us. What we're saving by not staying there will enable us to take another trip to Disney with the kids. And I know that we'll have a great time where ever we stay.

I've been very happy with every trip we've taken no matter what resort we were at. So I think that yeah, you do kind of have those wishes, but never any regrets.

And the nice thing is you can always visit the other resorts. Two of the things I'm most looking forward to on this trip is taking the DD boat to POFQ for beingets and a nightime stroll from Epcot after it closes down to the Boardwalk.

You'll have a great trip regardless of where you end up staying. :)

STOP reading the POR posts if they make you feel bad :)

Life's too short for regrets. Read the posts about the great times people are having at ASMu.

And make a list of all the things you'll do with the $500 you save. I mean it--- a real list that you post right next to your computer keyboard. Every time you're tempted to read a POR post, read your list instead!

Have a wonderful trip!!

We've stayed at the Values and I think they're perfectly nice. We usually stay at the Fort Wilderness campground, and prefer that (by far) to all the other resorts, but frankly except for not being on the monorail, I like Pop Century just as much as I like the Contemporary. They're little rooms that we don't spend a lot of time in, so I'm much more focused on other things.
