First time trip. We are looking at renting points for OKW. I really like the idea of having a kitchen. I have read some threads that say this is the worst DVC resort because it's really sprawling. I have no problem with driving my car to the parks everyday. Are the AAA lots close to the parks? I know you have to request daily maid service. Anyone have an idea of how much that cost? If I don't request maid service, how do you go about getting clean towels everyday? I am sorry for all the questions at one time. I am just so new to all of this. Thank you!!!

Hi and welcome to the DIS boards. OKW is a terrific resort. Yes, it tends to be a bit sprawling but not a huge deal. I can't answer your question as to the parking lots though. I know that a lot of those who stay at OKW have no issues with the bus system.
As to maid service, I believe it's different for different services...for a trash and towel service, it's about $10 a day, housekeeping service for a studio would be about $25, 1 bdrm $30. If clean towels are an issue for you, you could always wash them yourself. You will have a washer/dryer in a 1 bdrm and there are compl. laundry facilities for DVCers.
I'm one of those people that doesn't need a 'clean' towel everyday. I just hang it up after each use and let it dry out. Then, I get new ones on my scheduled trash/towel day..usually about day 3 or 4 of the stay.

I love Old Key West - the rooms are spacious, the atmosphere very relaxing after all of the delightful, yet chaotic running around the parks. It is spread out and sprawling, but it is also quiet and private. The transportation system is fine and it is one of the few resorts where you are able to park directly in front of your building. I am grateful that my favorite DVC resort requires the fewest points to reserve. Enjoy and no worries.

OKW is our favorite resort. You'll be blown away, particularly if you get a 1-bedroom or larger.

We'll be there in less than two weeks!

It's our favorite too, but I have a question about your inquiry about parking. I don't know what an AAA lot is. At OKW, you are right on-site with terrific Disney transportation. There are 5 bus stops, so your unit will not be far from one, and the relaxing atmosphere more than makes up for the hustle and bustle of the parks.

If you drive your car, you CAN drive yourself to the parks and park free of charge (you are on-site, and on-site guests get free parking), but with Disney transportation, you will get dropped off right at the park entrance and wont have to deal with the hassle of the parking lots and trams etc.

Housekeeping at DVC is similar to most timeshares. You get a trash and towel service on day 4. If you are in a 1,2,or 3 bedroom, you will have a full size laundry inside your villa, and if you are in a studio, you will get free use of the laundry rooms near the 4 pools. You may choose to pay for daily maid service, but it is costly. A studio is $25 per day. You can also have daily trash and towel service if you choose, and that is $10 a day extra. YOu can also order extra towel packs for $6. Most of us DVC members actually like not having daily maid service. I like to think of this as my "home away from home", and I like that I don't have to work around housekeeping.

The AAA parking is close to the front of the various parking lots. But it is my understanding that you have to buy a package thru AAA to use them. (Simply being an AAA member isn't good enough.) So if you're renting points, I don't think you'd be able to use the AAA parking.

Hi :wave2: We are going to be at OKW for our first time in June :cool1: We have always stayed at POR, AB a couple times and the mansions for the last 7 wonderful trips pixiedust: I have always read how people think POR is so sprawling as well, however, we really never had problem with it. Can anyone compare the two as far as size? I thought POR was much larger :scratchin We have requested a smoking building :smokin: (please don't dislike me because we smoke, we are VERY considerate of others :goodvibes ). Can anyone estimate how long it might take from the furthest building to the HH, just to compare? Thanks :sunny:
