I have a solo trip to WDW planned and am currently booked for a standard room only at AoA for my first night, then am transferring to Pop for a package, then back to AoA for a room only for my last night. It looks like AoA standard room is available with the exception of a couple of nights. As I would REALLY rather stay at AoA the entire stay, what is the chances of that happening? I check the website daily. Is there a chance of being able to change the reservation at Pop to AoA when I check into AoA? Would they be able or willing to do that?

They would probably be willing as long as the room is available.

You should call every day or get waitlisted for what you want.. don't wait till you get there... but then ask again when you get there if it did not happen before.

If there is availability at AoA you would be able to change resorts, but...is your Pop package a special offer? If it is there would have to be availability at AoA under the special offer.

You could also try different lengths of stays for the AoA reservation. If you can find something to cover all your dates, you can subtract extra nights. For example if you are looking for a room for Jan 10 - 17, try Jan 10 - 20 or Jan 8 - 20 and if all the nights are available, book them and then adjust to your real dates.

It would be better to continue checking to see if anything opens up at AoA before your vacation. There are cancellation penalties, change fees and deadlines for packages that are stricter than for room only reservations so that's also something to keep in mind.

Do I call my AAA TA, Disney or AoA directly?

The free dining package was not available, so it is just booked using AAA. I know they do not discount the Little Mermaid rooms, so would not have an issue rebooking directly through Disney.

The front desk will just tell you to call central reservations. Keep checking with them and on the website. If you booked the res through AAA then Disney won't speak to you about it and you'll need to go through AAA. If you're booking new I'd go through Disney.

Can you tell us your dates so we can possibly be of more help?

As another PP mentioned, expand your dates on the website. Sometimes Disney releases rooms for longer stays and limits them for shorter stays. Always include your actual dates of stay. If you find a room available, book it, then call and modify the dates to what you really want.

Yes, absolutely do this on your own through Disney. Going through AAA on this one will bog down the process and you could potentially lose the room if it suddenly becomes available.

My AAA TA is saying that Disney won't wait list anyone. As there is usually a delay in hearing back from them (sometimes several hours, other times days), constantly having to contact them to check availablility is going to be a real hassle.:headache:

If you are still early enough to cancel your reservation without penalty, you can keep checking until then directly with Disney and make a booking that way. Then you would have to cancel your booking with the AAA TA. However, you need to know if there is a penalty for cancelling with your TA and take that into account.

If you are going to leave it with the TA then you will have to go through them until you arrive at the resort. If there are no rooms available at AoA for the discount that you have then your odds of getting moved are diminished considerably. Nothing is impossible, though, with pixie dust in WDW!! Just don't expect the unlikely and go prepared to love what you have booked!

The good thing about POP is that you are just across the lake from AoA so you can still enjoy that resort as well!!

Your TA is right - Disney doesn't do wait lists for cash reservations. They are first come first serve.

I'd go through Disney directly if you can get it and cancel with AAA, only to avoid the back and forth of a middle man while trying to secure a hard to get room.

Ditto. Your AAA TA is not going to constantly check on AoA availability for you. You will need to do it yourself. My advice - just keep going to the Disney website, check your dates, expand your dates. If something pops up, book it immediately and cancel your AAA reservation.
