Can you use any resort pool or just the one you stay in? What keeps others out?

Thanks

depends on where you're staying.

All Stars can share.

POR/POFQ can share.

All other pools are that resort's guests only.

They can check room keys, but from my understanding, it's not that common EXCEPT at Beach/Yacht Club's Stormalong Bay, which is GATED.

Let's see, I also believe (not so sure on this one) that DVC members can use ANY pool except AKL. Is that right? :confused3

DVC is Disney's version of a timeshare. To become a member, you purchase a real estate interest in one of the DVC resorts. More information is available in the FAQs on the DVC boards, if you're interested in joining.

If you're not DVC, you may only use the pools at the resort where you're staying, with a couple of exceptions:

1. If you're staying at POR or POFQ, you can use the pools at both resorts.

2. If you're staying at an All-Star resort, you may use the pools at all 3 All-Star resorts.

At YC/BC/BCV, the pool area is fenced, and you must show a YC/BC/BCV resort ID to get in.

At the other deluxes, lifeguards and/or security conduct random resort ID checks. They walk around the pool area and ask to see your ID. If you can't produce an ID for that resort, you'll be asked to leave.

Just to add...there is signage at each resort pool that states use of that particular pool is for those guests staying at that particular resort. So....if you want to swim in SAB, you need to be staying at YC/BC. If you want to swim in Luna Park at BW, stay at BW.
Resort ID's are routinely checked...you don't want to be swimming around at the Volcano Pool at the Polynesian and have a lifeguard come up to you and ask for your Polynesian resort key...you won't be able to produce it, and you'll be asked to leave. Somewhat embarrassing I would think.
In short, stay where you want to swim. I own DVC and have yet to pool hop...just too much hassle.

No pool hopping. You only get to use the pool at the resort you paid to stay at. It would be really unfair for people who are staying at a specific resort to find the pool overcrowded because of people coming over from other resorts so it's not allowed.

Good point. Imagine paying all that money to stay at YC/BC and then having SAB packed with people paying a lot less to stay at value resorts. Makes sense and I can see why they are fairly strict about it.

even if you pay thousands to join DVC, you still can't hop to AKL or BC.

That's because there are only 3 resorts at Universal, and I'd guess that the pools are more or less equally 'nice'.

With the thousands and thousands of resort rooms at WDW, there's no way they can make the pools available to all guests. The pools at the deluxes are much, much nicer than the pools at the values, so everyone would flock to the comparatively small pools at the deluxes.
