Resort Parking Fees to be enforced

We NEVER visited the front desk during our September stay. Disney sent me an email that they'd charged my card-on-file for parking. So, it doesn't matter if you use online check-in, visit the front desk, or not.

That said, I had booked ahead of the cut-off date for the parking charge. And strangely, they only charged me for one of my four nights. But I did get them to reverse the charge, since I was within the grace period.

Good to know. We’re 20 days out but booked our package last November. I will keep an eye out in case we are charged. I’ve already done online check-in.

They do get free transport from the airport to the resort and back. Why are people being charged to park while those that fly get free transportation?

This was a reply to another comment. That person basically asked why shouldn't we just raise the price of the rooms instead of charging for parking. It's like "we don't want to pay for parking so make everyone pay more!!!" Sorry don't see how that makes much sense.

I just made a resort only ressy for POR 2 days ago. The CM on the phone told me that there would be a daily $19 fee for parking at the resort and that it would be collected at the resort and not charged on the ressy.
Just an FYI Not every person arriving at a resort is going to have MB's for front gate staff to scan IE:international guests and last minute ressy's.

So I'm wondering if this will be charged by the gate staff or if the resort front desk will charge it at check in or tack it onto your bill?

It will be added to your resort folio and not charged/collected at the gate.

Right. But the CMs at the gate have a list of everyone checking in that day with name, reservation number, etc.

Might as well rent a big villa offsite and share with multiple families and bring all the cars you want.

Much better financial decision
We do this, and love it, but... since we don’t have APs, we have to pay to park at the theme parks. Disney resort guests don’t have that charge.

My mistake was talking about visiting. Yes obviously ADR should be allowed. That’s completely different.

Why not visiting? DIsney had promoted resort hopping for years, with the practice encouraging guests to consider deluxe stays on future trips. Now they want to turn those people away? Seems very shortsighted to me.

Might sound harsh, but if it clears a spot for someone with an ADR then SO BE IT!!

It is harsh. Shall we take that leap and suggest that resort guests get first spot for an ADR at their resort? If that was the policy it sure would clear spots at very popular resort restaurants.

Replying to the Original Post only with no further info, I stand by an ADR guest getting precedence over a non ADR guest. An ADR guest has probably requested the time WELL IN ADVANCE and there is a monetary forfeiture for a no show. WDW needs to figure out the space issue and for now it could mean no ADR, no Parking.

I think that once we go down this road we open the argument that resort guests can book their ADR's for their reserved resort before anyone else. For instance, if I book my room at the Poly a year in advance, I get to book 'Ohana before off resort guests. After all, I was there first.

NO, this is a shortsighted policy IMO, and once again, DIsney implemented a policy without thinking the ramifications through. If I plan to vist a resort and arrive today, am allowed to park, dine and shop, but tomorrow I get to the gate ready to do it all over again but am turned away, I will leave. But I am not coming back. How many other people will do this? Today Disney is busy however you never know what tomorrow brings. You start nickel diming people and frustrating them without rhyme or reason, they go elsewhere,

Looks like they want guests to use Disney transportation if they plan to go to a resort that isn't their own (at least one that has easy access to a park or parks). Or a ride share service. I can understand cracking down on no-ADR parking at the Contemporary where it's easy to just walk over to MK.

Yet there is no resort to resort transportation. If they want guests to rely on Disney transportation it shoudl be made very clear they will be turned away willy nilly ar resorts, and make it a tad easier to get to dinner or shopping.

Money. If Disney makes it more attractive to use their transportaion adn not rent a car, they have trapped you onsite. You eat and shop onsite, not running to Red Lobster for dinner, you go to Cape May. DIsney wants you to see that parking fee. They could have easily buried an increase in the resort cost but chose to charge to park in their lot. There is a reason.

Disney is being lazy and greedy. If their intentions were to stop people from parking at resorts to avoid park parking charge, they should give to everyone entering the resort a time stamped ticket, Disney guests should be able to validate the ticket for ADR at restaurants, giftshop or show magic band as proof of onsite guest. Everyone else should be getting charge by the hour. Abuse will stop.

I agree and I would add cheap. Would have cost a bit to add infrastructure to do this right and they chose not to.

Parking a car in their lot was free for over 40 years. Why does it suddenly cost money? And why does it cost more at deluxes than at Values? Pretty sure the value of the concrete isn’t different at the different resorts.

I agree. If the real issue is the size of the lot is too small for the number of visitors, then charging a parking fee is the wrong solution.

Last time we were in LasVegas, we found that all major casinos now charge $20/day for parking (used to be free) and added a $40/day room 'fee'. So while they can still advertise FREE rooms with certain comps, the reality is each room is now paying $60/day for what used to be free. We decided we rather vacation elsewhere since Vegas is no longer the only place to go gambling......so it DOES make a difference.

And I will add that it should involve a minimum $ amount spent to qualify for 3 hours of free parking for visitors without an ADR. I don't think that buying a soda at a QS location and then bopping over to Epcot should be permitted. If they did something like that, you would see fewer cas clogging the Epcot resort lots during the hours leading up to and thru the end of IllumiNations. The exodus from those lots every night following park closing is unbelievable!

I think charging overnight guests for parking is the wrong solution. Charging those not staying there would be a step in the right direction. But I'm sure they didn't want to add the infrastructure to do that at 25 hotels. They just want to collect the revenue at 25 hotels with the least outlay.

They do that for parking at DLR.

Agreed. Free should be max 3 hrs not a whole day even for onsite guest hotel hopping. Disney do know how to fix it they just don’t.

Shouldn’t be able to do that anymore.
Only can park if pay at another resort

Please clarify for me as I haven't been able to read all posts. If we rent a car and pay for parking for the length of stay at our resort, and have an ADR for Chef Mickey's, can we take the monorail to the park after the meal, or is the time still limited?

Time is still limited. That hasn’t changed. The ONLY. Change is parking fee charged at Resort for OVERNIGHT guests v

It would be so easy to give timestamped tickets. Just charge anyone $25 (that's the theme park parking rate now, right?) if they're there longer than 3 hours (with maybe some exceptions for long spa treatments or particularly time consuming restaurants).
