Hi all.

I’m curious as to how many people do resort only trips when you own DVC especially if it’s for extensive periods of time?

Our family will eventually have enough points at AKL to be able to make yearly trips. As much as I love the parks, we don’t want to ‘overdo’ them and when we look at what we can do in our off years from Orlando (DVC was originally going to be every other year) we may as well just buy flights and come to Orlando.

we’ll save on park tickets as we won’t go to them. Food we could probably cook on occasion.

Essentially these resort trips and pool and relaxing trips so wondered how popular that is?

We love resort trips! We enjoy the pools and hanging out at the resorts. AKL is a fabulous resort to enjoy, especially when restaurants and services return.

Give it a try!

I have done two trips resort only. One with my daughter and her friend (they did the parks) and one with DH.

We enjoy the pool most of the day/resort. Evenings dinner at another resort/DS/Boardwalk area.

Sometimes we also go to these other places mentioned for lunch - depending on the weather or if we need a break from the sun/pool.

We enjoy DS and the Boardwalk area - for meals, dessert and entertainment. We do browse some shops but not big on shopping.

Miniature golf, golf if you play, spa treatments if interested. We are walkers so we love to take our time in the morning and go for our 3-5 mile walk. We have met local friends at our resort and taken a ride (within two hours) to visit friend/family members too.

Pre-COVID - we also did the BOMA/Jiko tour.

We normally do resort only week long trips, or maybe a day or two in the parks, but not more than that. We head down in the winter to get out of New Hampshire. It is always warmer at WDW; we swim too, no matter what the outside temperature. We love the resorts and what they offer. We find plenty to keep us happy.

I have done a few of them but only short stays. Leaving right now for a 3 day trip! I enjoy it!

But, even when we do parks, it is a few hours in the morning and at night. We spend a lot more down time!!!

Did you mention this is your first RIV trip?
If so, have a great time!

Another thing to do is explore all the other resorts, this can be fascinating and help you find where you want to buy next!

I just planned out next trip like that. A trip to the keys with a stop at WDW on the way back, but no park visit planned for that trip. Just shopping, eating and moseying around. It's enjoyable and relaxing.

When we have kids along, I'll usually make a short trip to the pool with them, but leave after ten minutes. They'll spend an hour or more there. I'm not big on cooking in the room even with a full kitchen, we get plenty of time cooking at home. We bring snacks and coffee for the downtime, but prefer to eat out a lot on vacation. We enjoy trying out all sorts of new places with the kids, both on and off property. The kids are all teens so if the wife and I want a fancy dinner alone, we'll go on our own and and tell the kids they can eat at Chef Mickey's, Captain Hook's, or whatever.

I think for me it was I didn’t want to be buying park tickets each year as that really racks up but I though that for us, we could actually do a week in October when the kids are off and just go to the Halloween party one night. That would be more than enough to scratch that itch without spending mega each time

We've taken several park-free vacations over the years. We find the cost of a resort only vacation much the same expense of a beach or mountain resort. We have found the shopping, the restaurants, activities (bowling, movies, golf, etc.) enough. Really the parks stop one from spending much time enjoying the activities on property unless every minute is crammed. We found about 10 years ago that when we went to Spring Training our park tickets were wasted on those days which clued us in on resort only vacations. My son still has 2 days on a NE ticket from 2013.
