Resort only stays. What do you do with your days?

I've had a lot of personal tragedy in the last month or so. I'm planning on going to a resort for a day maybe on Halloween, Thanksgiving, or XMAS. I just need to get out of the house and be in a neutral place where there are no memories.

So, to answer your question, I'll just spend the day in the room watching TV, maybe some time at the pool, and a nice dinner somewhere (which I haven't decided where). Sometimes, just being able to look out a window and see the castle or a the lagoon or even a pool might be comforting. Even room service and buying something inexpensive at world of Disney.

I should mention that I'm a Florida resident who lives an hour away from Disney, so my plans may not apply to your situation.

We had a blast at Icon park. We did the sky wheel, Madam Tussauds, and the aquarium. We were all surprised at how fun it was. There were tons of restaurants and shops to poke through as well. The Madam Tussauds was such an unexpected highlight of the trip. We had so much fun and cracked up through the whole thing taking photos and being goofy.

Usually our 'resort only' stays have only been for 1 or 2 nights & usually just a quick trip down to book the free dining bounceback which I know is not offered right now and maybe never again.
Those days we usually just spent at the pool or resort hop.

Yup, a good bit different for me with an 1100 mile drive, LOL. If I could survive living in the Florida heat, I would probably do a day trip now and then to Disney if I was that close. Heck, I'd probably be a regular at downtown restaurants. Then again $$$$ so maybe not. It would be a lot more often though if I live there than I do now living in PA, haha.

Thank you everyone for all of your thoughtful replies. I completely forgot that Disney did horseback riding. We did that about 15 years ago and will look into it again.
icon park sounds like it would be fun, will definitely look into that too.

i found a groupon for the spa at the New Margaritaville hotel that included a 50 minute massage along with access to the pool facilities for the day for a very reasonable price.

My favorite non-park activity is the spa! I love Senses (the Disney spas at SSR and GF), but they're not currently open and I doubt they will be by January.
I went to the spa over Labor Day weekend at the Ritz-Carlton/JW Marriot Grand Lakes and they were wonderful.

I did the free tour offered at the Draft Horse barn at FW a couple of years ago and it was one of my all time favorite Disney experiences. I don't know if they're offering those tours right now though.

Check the recreation calendar for AKL/AKV. Again, I don't know how much is being offered at the moment, but all the free activities they have there are fun. I've done tours at Jiko and Boma, Sanaa, and one on the art and architecture of AKL.

I did a free tour of Wildness Lodge one time. That was very interesting, learning about the history behind the design and some of the building materials and artifacts at the resort.

Well, I have done a few no park stays pre-covid, and I have an AP, so it wasn’t for lack of tickets. I enjoyed the pools, shopping, dining, resort hopping, etc. I am not one of those people who has to stay busy on a vacation, so relaxing with a book and beverage by the pool or on the balcony is fine with me. I love the 1-bedroom villas at BLT. I prefer the view of the marina and CR over the view of MK, as I feel it’s more relaxing.

We did a couple nights, no parks, post cruise in January. We did a “transportation challenge”.

This sounds oddly appealing to me. So fun!
