Resort on-line check in

Hi, I am trying to decide if I should check in to our Disney resort on-line or not. Would love some thoughts on the advantages or disadvantages if any. I have requested a certain building and was wondering if I am more likely to get it if we check in when we get there? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
