We got back last Saturday, and our mugs still haven't been washed. They still have Disney on 'em. :) But it's gotta be done, so I looked them over and couldn't find any notice that they were dishwasher safe. Will they be damaged by the dishwasher and its harsh detergent?

Ours do well in the dishwasher too, though 1 POR mug has a few scrapes on it. The mug is from 8/05. It's funny--the other POR mug from the same trip is doing just fine.

All of the others (3 different kinds) are doing great in the dishwasher.

I never wash ours - I like to keep the WDW muck on them;)

:rotfl: You sound like DW!

Well, I'm going to try to slip them into the dishwasher tonight. Hopefully they'll be fine.

You know, in our experience (and we've got lots of resort mugs) you can wash them in the dishwasher and the only thing that happened to the appearance of our mugs was maybe a little fading, but -

some of them sprung a leak! They start retaining water, I can hear it in there when I shake the mug! And then sometimes it'll slowly leak back out, not good. So those after they drained I made into pencil holders and the rest I now wash by hand. I haven't gotten the water inside problem with those, all I can figure is somehow an opening happened in the hot dishwasher? Am I the only one this happens to?

Anway, that's our experience.

^^ Mine have sprung those same leaks :sad2: . Other than that, they are fine..we got our in July 2005.

Mine from the Wilderness Lodge are still going strong and are dishwasher-ed almost daily. One of mine has a small seam seperation to retain water through. It still functions just fine for coffee, in fact the hot coffee expands the plastic just enough to force the retained water out. So I usually set the mug on a paper towel for a minute or two to absorb the leak...

I have mugs dating back to 1996 and they are fine. Might be a little banged up, but safe in the dishwasher.

We have some from POFQ which are ten years old. After countless dishwashings, we can still enjoy our favorite hot beverage and almost make out the characters on the mugs. Fortunately, no leaks. Lost one lid though.

I have at least 3 or 4 mugs that go in the dishwasher every cycle.
We've got about a dozen mugs & thankfully, no leaks!!

That was a good question - I never even thought about it - just put them in the dishwasher. Like the idea of using them as cups to hold pens - I may do that. We bought the big ones, not the thinner ones so ours are kind of useless here at home as they don't fit into cup holders...

Thanks for the idea!

ALSO.............if you can't wash them in a dishwasher, how in the world would you ever be able to REUSE them on your next trip?? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Just had to get that in to stir up the old "reusable expiration" talks!! :lmao:

OK, we now return to our regularly scheduled program.

To be on the safe side and to at least have them last more than ten years. I recommend to hand wash your mugs.

Note on little piece of paper inside of mug when purchased (POP) says that to keep looking bright hand wash only.

I am a hand washer.

I have a few Disney mugs I won't use because I taste a weird soapy, plastic-y taste. For whatever reason, when I hand wash them, I don't have that problem. Maybe I just have sensitive taste buds. :) Anyway, the design does fade after awhile, but the taste is really the reason why I hand wash. I also soak them in a sink full of hot water with about 1/4 cup bleach once a week, too.

I handwash the cups and put the lids in my dishwasher. I've read in other posts that the designs tend to fade when cleaned in the dishwasher.
