I just read Kathy's blog and went to my cabinet full of the older Resort Mugs. Filled last year's mug with water and poured it into a measuring cup. Yup, just as I suspected, the new mugs hold 4 ozs. less! New Mug 12 oz. vs. Old Mug 16 oz., a 25% reduction per trip to the beverage station.

I just did another test with my collection of resort mugs. The old fat bottom mugs held 16 oz. When I tested the new ones a 12 oz. can of soda fit perfectly with room for some ice.

Now I'm The new design in the first picture holds 12 oz plus room for ice? If that's the case, the volume must be pretty close.

I was measuring a year of a million dreams mug same style as the ones with the larger white bottoms in your second photo. That held 16 oz filled to the top.

Not that it's a big deal, I just wonder if it's one more decline by degrees (or a few ozs as the case may be).

I'll be on the QSDP in August. So, I'll have four of the new mugs in my collection soon no matter what size they are

I love the resort mugs and the funny thing is I enjoy the benefits of using them at home for my coffee every morning more so than I do getting the free soda refills at the resort, I need to curb my coffee habits so the fact that it holds less is a good thing for me

I'm sure it was brought up elsewhere, but Disney has changed the old, one mug per visit rule, haven't they? I read somewhere that now you can bring your old ones from home and use them the next time.

I am such a nut, I love the new mugs so much that friends of ours just got back and I had them buy me one because I won't be down this year. I like the new design, but had not noticed it was smaller. Interesting...

I always use a WDW resort mug for my morning coffee. I'm sitting in my office now with an old Port Orleans mug with the gang playing insturments in Mardi Gras-ish colors. At home we tend to use the mugs for meals too.

I don't think they've done away with that 'rule'. According to the blog the wording "Refills available at no additional charge at Resort Beverage Islands located at the resort that this mug was purchased through the end of your resort stay." is still there.

no you misread that, the only one you can bring is your old 7/11 big gulp cup.you must then check in with the cast member manning the beverage and condiment island, that would be the person filling the salt and pepper forks and spoons. they will in turn give you a wristband. the wristband is good for that day only so you must repeat this procedure every morning. hope i have been of some help.

Can you use the Big Gulp to fill up on a Dole Whip at Captain Cook's? If so I might have to buy a Big Gulp and pack it!!!!

no you misread that, the only one you can bring is your old 7/11 big gulp cup.you must then check in with the cast member manning the beverage and condiment island, that would be the person filling the salt and pepper forks and spoons. they will in turn give you a wristband. the wristband is good for that day only so you must repeat this procedure every morning. hope i have been of some help.

You forgot to mention that the wristband also alows you to refill the Big Gulp at all of the parks and restaurants!

Same here! I use my mug from my trip last year basically as a cute water bottle. I take it to work and class with me everyday, which is fun because then other students will ask me when I went to Disney World. It is a great conversation starter.

That's kind of a bummer that the size of the mug is shrinking over time though... just means more trips to refill it!

Wow! I didn't know about this. I always use the little known ice bucket trick. I just bring the ice bucket and/or trash can from our room and fill it with the drink of my choice. The best part is... no wristband required.

Great Idea! To avoid the wristband, we usually just open our mouths under the beverage dispenser. Lucky for DH the cofee is never that hot! The only real problem we had was the year of the "love bugs". They stuck all over the kids faces.
