Resort/magic band question

I have a friend who is booking his flight/resort package through SW vacations then will purchase park tickets directly through Disney. Would he still be able to get free magic bands through Disney or will he need to purchase them? In other words, do the magic bands come with the resort or park ticket purchase? Hope that makes sense. thanks!

You link your reservations (and park tickets) to the Disney experience site, and if they are staying onsite, they will get free magic bands.

As stated above, if he is listed on the reservation he will have the option to get a magic band...no park tickets are required.
