I think behind all of this is the fact that first timers and very occasional visitors are the bulk of Disney guests. Somewhere along the line, some muckety-muck decided they don't really need the souviner dollars from the realtively small number of dedicated Disney fans, or that they'll get those dollars in different ways (like D23). I think they also realize that no matter how disappointed we are with the changes made, most of us will still feel that a bad day at a blandified Disney is better than a good day at another destination, so what incentive is there to cater to us as a guest demographic?
