Okay, our vacation is from 8/27/06 - 9/2/06.
Let's say we want to stay at POP from 8/27-8/31 and then switch over to a studio at VWL for the last 2 nights. How would that work?

Bell services can transfer your luggage for you while you enjoy a day at the parks. Most likely the bags will not arrive at VWL until late in the afternoon. Allow time to check-in at VWL, as every time you change resorts or rooms, you'll need to check-in like a new arrival.

If I'm renting the points to stay at VWL for those 2 nights, will it have to be a whole seperate reservation? Sorry, I've never done anything with the DVC yet, forgive me for any crazy questions! :)

Yes, point reservations through DVC are completely seperate from cash reservations through CRO. Even all cash reservations through CRO require fresh check-ins when changing resorts.

Yes, it is 2 separate reservations. Bell services at Pop will move your luggage, if you don't have a car. When we rent a car down there, we always just take our luggage with us. If you do have the resort transfer it, it gets to the new resort later in the afternoon usually. When you get to VWL, you will be checking in as a new arrival.

I would recommend leaving Pop, going right to VWL to check in. You room may not be cleaned and ready, but you will have a better choice of rooms if you get there earlier.

It does not matter how your reservations are made, whether soley through MS or CRO, or any possible combinations of the two. When you change resorts it is a new reservation. Period. No exceptions. It is possible to have a reservation linked if you are staying in the same resort and either switching from cash to pts or extending the reservation. But once you check out of a WDW resort and check into another, it is a seperate reservation. The WDW resorts are all under the same umbrella of Disney resorts but yet are all their own entity and are managed as such.
Even when the reservations are linked at the same resort, you still have to go down to the front desk and check out and then immediatly back in. They have to update the credit info etc to correspond with the extended stay. We had one trip where we were supposed to stay 5 nights, but it turned into being 13 nights! We kept adding on days, a few at a time; we never had to change resorts and we were at BCV in the summer with SAB! After a while it became a joke between us and the front desk CMs and the MS Cms, we literally spoke to them several times each day, for a week. When they say call back, that things change hour by hour--they mean it. We were amazed. It was one of our favorite trips and was really DVC magic at it's best.
We certainly came home with an assortment of room cards from that trip! Each time you check out and back in, you get new cards. LOL!
