We will be in Disney over Thanksgiving, staying at POR.

We have a ADR at GFCafe on TurkeyDay for 8:20am, and a ADR for MBYBBQ at 2:00.

My plan was to drive from POR to GF, have breakfast, look at the resort a bit, and then ride the monorail to Poly and see their resort and decorations, and possibly CR if time allows.

Is this possible? Will GF let me leave my car there for a couple hours while we ride the monorail around a bit?

Cheers!

Sorry thought this was in Transportation. Please move if need be.

1. Is this possible?

2. Will GF let me leave my car there for a couple hours while we ride the monorail around a bit?

1. Maybe

2. Maybe.

If you were going on a less busy day, you'd have no problems doing this.
It MIGHT be a problem on a very busy holiday date, as the parking at the MK area resorts can
fill and no more cars are permitted.

It might be safer to take the Disney bus from POR to MK, then use the monorail and/or boat shuttles to make your other rounds.

(And… allow plenty of extra time, due to crowd congestion.)

You are allowed to park your car at a different resort for up to 3 hours. Parking can also be tight at the different resorts. You can park your car for free all day at the theme parks if you are staying on property so if 3 hours isn't enough you can park at Magic Kingdom/TTC and explore from the TTC.

Just FYI: Resort Monorail goes clockwise. If you're at GF, next stops are (in order) MK, CR, Poly. IMO you'd have time to see the other monorail resorts, but I'd stop at CR first, or you'd be making extra loops around the Lagoon.

Taking the boat from MK to Ft Wilderness for the BBQ is a good idea, too. It's a great ride, only about 10-12 minutes, and the BBQ is a short walk from the dock.

I've read on this board that the "rule" is 3 hour parking at the resorts, but in practice, I've never been told this by any guard at the gate and they've never given me any kind of time-stamped ticket. Maybe they would do that on a holiday though. :confused3

Many thanks for the replies.

lol @ "maybe" Thanks Robo

Thanks for the specifics marauder, I think we may go that route.

I think the boat may be a perfect option POOHsie, thank you.

Thanks staceyeileen. I have enough time stamped parking issues to deal with where we live, and I wasn't sure if I had to deal with it here or not.

Thanks again!

Cheers!

Enforcement can vary. Over the years we've been given a 3-hour parking pass, had our vehicle's plate number written down by the CM at the guard shack, denied entry to a resort lot because it was at or near capacity, and allowed to park without restriction. It just depends on the time of year and the location/capacity of the lot. They are most strict at the MK monorail resorts, followed by the EPCOT resorts.

Personally, I only park at a resort while I'm dining/shopping/visiting at that particular resort as I don't want to take parking space away from those who are paying to stay there.

If it's a 3 hour pass that's all I really need.

Thanks again!

I've been denied entry a couple times over the years, but I have never gotten any sort of three hour pass. Most of the time, I've never had an issue parking.

But I do love the boat ride over to Fort Wilderness. :)

Please don’t leave your car their the whole day unless you plan to Valet it. As someone that stays at the GF every year its my biggest pet peeve. Of course you have to park their for your ADR but don’t leave your vehicle for hours afterwords. I actually have seen a car get towed last year, I don’t know why just saying. I truly feel bad for BW resort guests think they have it the worst.

Having stayed at the Contemporary a couple of times, I can say that it can be really bad there too. Once we had a room in the North Garden Wing (now replaced by BLT) with a view over the parking lot towards MK. Several times we had a hard time finding a spot when returning to CR in the afternoon. Once MK closed, the lot emptied out and was not even half full.

Yeah, I'm not leaving my car anywhere all day. We're pretty busy Thursday.

Three hours should be more than enough for us.

I'm surpised though, that so many parking spaces would fill up like that..

Its always seemed like maybe half of the guests would have a car (rental or personal) and the other took the express.

Just seems odd that if everyone drove a car to the resort there wouldn't be enough parking it seems.

Speaking of BW, we used to park in a cast member lot behind the BW. It was a great little trick for a bit.

Cheers!
