Please tell me if this sounds really corny...

I've only been to the World one time. I'm going again in March '03 and since the parks close earlier this time of the year, I was hoping to "tour" the different resorts. I'm trying to decide where to stay when I go back in the fall of '03. I have learned a lot from these boards, but I've never just walked around hotels/resorts that I'm not staying in.

Can someone please tell me if other people do this or it's considered odd??

Touring other resorts is not odd at all. We do this on all of our 10day trips. We like going from resort to resort walking around the grounds taking in the atmosphare. Around meal times maybe grabbing somthing to eat at the foodcourt areas and thinking about whether or not we would stay at that resort on any of our upcoming trips.

We are giving CSR a try on our next trip in Feb partly because we toured it and even though it is spreadout we feel it has things that the other moderates do not that we find to be pluses.

Resort hopping as I like to call it is a great way to spend some time at WDW.

People do this all the time (me included :D ) We tend to have dining reservations at some resorts, that could help if you feel uncomfortable :D

we stayed at CBR last year because we weren't sure if AKL would be worth the money so we hitched a bus from MK to AKL and checked it out. We even went so far as to ask the front desk if we could peek in a room - they were so nice and actually just gave us a key to check it out on our own!!!! So, as you can see from below, we thought it was worth it.

We also checked out GF and Contemporary (well we had dinner there - but still wandered around) and we head over to FQ every visit just to hit the food court (beignets)

To sum up - there is NOTHING wrong with touring hotels. I know this is something a lot of people do at Christmas time too.

Thanks folks!!!

I was worried about touring, but now I just can't wait to get there!!!!!

Does anyone have suggestions about best times/places to visit? I've heard there is a movie and campfire event at FW ea night, I was thinking about doing this one evening after walking around. Also checking out the Contemporary and going up to the rooftop/walkway to watch fireworks.

I think we might go to the GF for a Villian dinner, but I believe I read that has ended??

I appreciate all the help I can get!

On our last trip we took a stroll around the Fort Wilderness area - there are some beautiful trails there. Then we strolled over to WL - had no isea they were so close! It was a pleasant walk, ending up at the beach at WL. We sat on the beach a while, then went on up to the lodge to look around. It was delightful.

Check out the rumor boards. I think there is a rumor that the villains meal may be coming back. Maybe a Toy Story breakfast too.

Everyone does it. Ask to see a vacant room at the resorts that appeal to you.

Depending on when you go. The campfire movie is 7pm until the time switch then it becomes 8pm. The campfire is held in the Meadow Trading post area in the center of the campground. After the movie I would wander down to the beach and watch the electrical water pageant. If you want to waste some time there is nothing like sitting on the Pioneer Hall porch in rockers watching the other guests. Boat launches are available to FW from the CR, WL and MK. Buses are available from TTC & WL.

We love to eat dinner at the resort restaurants and tour them prior to or after dinner.

I LOVE THESE BOARDS!!!

You gals & guys are the greatest! I can't wait to check out each resort. My DS is really excited about the campfire and the Sing a long w/ Chip & Dale.

We have been in love with WL forever -- but always find time to take a "peek" or grab a snack at the other resorts -- I agree that sometimes having the "excuse" of lunch or dinner takes away some of the "I'm just browsing feeling" but have a great time. The only way I know to get a really good look is to do it when you can. Enjoy
:p
