Resort hallways - a layout question

To fess up, I'm a hallway hater. There's nothing that can suck the fun and energy out of a vacation faster than a quick walk down the hotel hall with it's lack of windows and closed in feel... which might explain why I loved the cabins. However, the cabins leave it so you can potentially get a good soaking before even getting on a bus.

Which resorts have the open air hallways and which have the closed hallways? To start, I know:

POR = Open air but buildings are seperated without covered walkways.
POFQ = same as above

All of the moderate and value resorts have open air buildings that are seperated without covered walkways. DVC resorts OKW and SSR are the same.

All deluxe resorts have enclosed hallways.

Yes but AKL has open viewing areas between each "building". It at least gives you some light and a nice place to stop and take in the sights. My kids loved them and ran from viewing area to viewing areas to see the animals.

Thank you Karen & Kjustice! :)

I was hoping to hear that the DVCs were open air considering I've been looking into BCV and VWL for our next vacation :) I think AKL would be fun if certain family members didn't have asmatha. I just don't want to risk it y'know? ;)

BCV and VWL are not open....just OKW and SSR.

THe GF and Polynesian have many buldings so there are no long hallways in those two resorts. I prefer that configuration myself. I feel safer in buildings that are locked at night and yet there are not those very long halls that a few of the resorts have.

Oh no! You're right, I read the response wrong... thank you for correcting my mistake, I would have been a bit dissapointed to find enclosed hallways when expecting the other.

There is something to be said for security. I also like the idea of there being an extra set of locked doors between the family and the outside world.

Hmmmm.... I just wish I could fly down for a day and tour the resorts before making any decisions. :)

The only DVC property with open halls is SSR and OKW.

I can remember that YC had windows in their hallways. :cool1:

The hallways at AKL DO feel very open, much better than most hotels. DS#2 has bad asmatha (regular from poor lungs & then allergy induced) and staying there did not make it any worse than usual. If it is allergy induced, they would have to be allergic to those specific animals and in close contact with them. So, you might not want to totally rule it out yet. Or maybe you do. I don't know. I'm just trying to offer up information.

We had to check out of WL last year after only one hour. Had just come from 3 nites at CR tower and found the hallways way too dark and cramped. Also layout of hallways seemed like a maze to us. Transfered to POR and found that much more comfortable for us.
