Resort Fee

I have a reservation at the DLH and was wondering if anyone was able to get the $12.00 resort fee removed from their bill if they didn't use the parking, internet, etc.

Personally, I think this should just be included in the room rate.

No removal, sadly. I think many of us resent having to pay the $12 (PLUS 15% tax, but the way, bringing it to $13.80 per night) when we don't use the services attached to it, but we don't have a choice in the matter.

I like how the DLH used to do things in the old days (meaning the '80s and '90s) - they would take money for a phone deposit, return it to you at the end of your stay if you didn't use it and that was it. Parking was charged separately and only if you needed to park. There was no automatic Resort Fee for parking, newspapers, phone use, gym, etc., like there is now.

I wish they'd just include it in the room rate, too. But unfortunately, Disney's just doing what the major chains have been doing for years.

At least I'm not paying the crazy $20 - $30+ a night to park like we have to do when we go to Atlanta and DC!

No, they will not. Just mentally add both together and that is your room rate.

DH inquired about the resort fee at the Holiday Inn we stayed at the day before checking in to the Disneyland Hotel. They said it is imposed by the city and there is no way around it. Some hotels do add it to their room rate but either way you are still paying for it.

At least I'm not paying the crazy $20 - $30+ a night to park like we have to do when we go to Atlanta and DC!

Or $50 like we had to in downtown LA (it was mandatory valet). We knew it going in (and had a great hotel rate - so it evened out - but still it seems excessive).

We were given the impression that they all had to charge it. Some just add it in to their room rate so it isn't listed as a resort fee.

Yes, even many of the lower level hotels are giving resort fees now. At least the Disneyland Hotel includes internet in with this fee--many do not. I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency where the resort fee was 35.00 per night, and that didn't include wireless. If you wanted to go online, you had to pay 10.00 per day per computer. With 3 kids and a techy husband, I can tell you this will be the last time I make that kind of mistake! I will always check what the resort fee includes.

One thing about the Disneyland Hotel is that you can self-park rather than using their vallet. I know you said you don't need parking, but for others reading here, they have two parking lots--self park and vallet.

Anaheim also adds on a city tax as well, so don't forget to add that in with your calculations.

Nope. The rate that's listed is the rate you pay plus tax (15 or 18%).

At least the fee isn't too outrageous (yet). I use the net and parking, so I can mentally ease my mind a bit that way. However, I have paid it at other hotels when I didn't use net or parking.

If it's included in the room fee you are paying a higher tax than if its seperate. Hotel tax is 15-18% while the tax on the resort fee is around 9% (I think its the sales tax rate?).

Exceptional point, so it certainly is the best way especially for those of us who don't mind the fee so much. Of course, to "hide," the fee might still make others happy to not complain about what they don't know.

It's still charged at 15%, that's how 12 becomes 13.80 per day.


The nice thing is that if you book a *package*, the fee is wrapped up in what you pay, no extra charges beyond the package cost. It's just if you book room-only when it's charged.

This all leaves me with the conclusion that the resort fee is even more confusing than I had thought. I say scrap it.

I believe the agent your DH spoke with was just spinning a tail to get him to go away.

Per http://www.anaheimoc.org/faq/faq.asp (scroll to the bottom), Anaheim does not impose any fixed flat rate fees. Everything they charge is bundled in the 15% sales tax.

California does add another .065% for their "tourism tax" or "tourism assessment fee". On a $150/night hotel room, that is less than 10 cents. But I've always seen it added into the "Sales Tax" with the city's 15% (making it 15.065%) by hotels.
