Resort Dilemma

We currently have CSR booked for 12/29 - 1/5 and we love this resort. However, I was just made aware of availability at the BCV for 1/1 - 1/6 with a similar cost per night. So now we are really rethinking our choices... (I'll try to make this as simple as I can). If we chose the BCV option we would have push our dates forward by one day. Instead of leaving on a Saturday and coming home on a Saturday, we’d leave on a Sunday and come home on a Sunday. My wife doesn’t like the idea of coming back on a Sunday then going to work the very next day . Also, since the BCV is only available for 5 nights and our trip is 7 nights, we’d have to split our stay. Again, not a huge deal, but we’ll be traveling with a 9 month old and I can’t say I’m looking forward to packing up mid-trip and moving. I have also read some complaints about the BCV being a little tired and not in the best condition…and you don’t get mousekeeping.

However, on the flip side, we can get a BCV per night rate for the same as CSR. The location is also extremely appealing. For the last 5 days of our trip, we’ll be a short distance away from Epcot and DHS which is great for afternoon breaks.

Ahh! Choices! Any advice is appreciated.

I'm completely amazed to read you can get BCV for about the same rate per night as CSR (that's Coronado Springs, right?)...that's a very big "wow"....

I'm also very very surprised to read there's availability at BCV the first week of January...if you decide to switch, do jump fast...that availability is a little bit "miraculous!"

Having said all that, I'd definitely go for BCV...it's one of our two favorite resorts (DVC or otherwise) and that ability to walk to/from Epcot (and the Studios) is huge! Now, we also love CSR...but it's much more "contained"...at BCV you have easy access to all of the Boardwalk as well as the two parks...and the fun eateries and sights at the Swan & Dolphin, too...plus the bus rides to MK and Downtown Disney and AK are shorter since BCV is so centrally located...don't know if the pools matter to you or not...CSR's is great...but most folks find SAB and the BCV pool extra-special...

I do not find the rooms "tired" (altho it's been about a year since I was last there)...love the resort, the Marketplace, the pools, the "geography" (having the whole Boardwalk area to explore/play in as well as the easy access to Epcot & the Studios)...

Only you can judge whether having an extra day at home prior to returning to work, or having to deal with the logistics of a split stay, matter to you ... but in our experience the split stay element is more or less a "no big deal"...for you it might be a bigger deal since you're dealing with a baby--you won't have "guaranteed" access to the room you move to til 4 or later (altho often you can get in earlier), so your baby's nap habits could be a huge factor...but the move itself is super simple...you just call Bell Services to come get your bags and they take them to the new resort...then, when you get to the new resort (presumably, you'll spend "move day" in a park or at a pool), you call that resort's Bell Services and they'll bring your luggage to you...you can check in at the new resort any time that's convenient for you...I usually go there first thing to get my new room keys and then head to a park til it's time to go back and I can go straight to my new room. But it would work just as well to delay checking in to the new resort til you're done in the parks for the day...

I am kind of with your wife on this one. I would not want to move midway with an infant and no way would I want to go to work the very next day. But staying in the epcot area does have its advantages. It's a hard decision.

would Sat or Sun get you the best deal with the plane tickets? if you are flying.

changing resorts can be a problem (although I do it) especially with a small child.

you are also giving up New Year's Eve - which is probably why you booked the trip. well if you find another room on property for 30 and 31 then you aren't.

that say BCV is lovely - stayed there not long ago and it was in fine shape - well my studio was. You are closer to Epcot and there fireworks. of course you may have a problem going back to moderates after BCV - it is really nice. the only thing that moderates have that BCV does not is a good food court. but you can order groceries at BCV

I'd take the BCV, being able to walk to and from Epcot and DHS with your infant in a stroller without having to take buses sounds rather appealing to me.

Do you mean CR (The Contemporary) or CSR Coronado Springs Resort?

I would spend three days at the first resort and then switch to BCV for the last 4 nights and still go home on Saturday.

Thanks for the reply. The nightly rate for CSR would be about the same as BCV. It's not a 5 vs 7. And technically, we would still be in WDW for NYE, but still at CSR.

Your comment on the hotel switch is definitely something we will consider. It seems to add an extra bit of stress to the vacation.

Coronado Springs. Unfortunately, we'd have to use all 5 nights at BCV, so a Sunday departure is unavoidable.

That makes sense.
Switching resorts after only two days would not be that bad.
