I have seen alot of reference to "codes" for resorts. I am having a hard time understanding if this is something that may apply to me.

First off let me say that we(me, DH, DD7) are planning on the week after Thanksgiving. We do not have AP, AAA, or a Disney Visa. This will be our first trip to WDW. and We would like to stay a POR.

For reasons with my DH's job, we have to wait until June or July to begin booking anything.

My questions are...

1. What does all the reference to codes mean? What are they, how do you get one?

2. Why does it seem that people book moderate resorts and then upgrade to deluxe? (are the deals that good??)

3. Will the winter codes be available in June or July?? What are the winter codes:confused:

Any help---PLEASE!!??

Thanks,
Danielle

For more information about codes and deals I suggest you check out www.mousesavers.com

The best way to think about codes is to book what you can afford if no codes come out. If they do then you can always upgrade.

I recently reserved a room for late August with no codes available. (that I know of anyways) What I plan to do is keep watching for when the codes do come out and hopefully I can get a better rate or even upgrade.?? That's if a code even comes out for late August. I don't know if there will be any or not. I'm kind of new at this myself. Maybe one of the experts here can explain better.

Luckily, that is value season so even at rack rate, you can be paying a little more than people are paying now at discounts. The value resorts run at $77 a night if I am not mistaken. The rate right now is $69, so really it is less than a $10 difference. You can wait until July to book and be fine. I went last year at that same time and didn't book until October. I had a little trouble finding a room (at any price) for the Friday after Thanksgiving but after that it was all open.

Maybe you would want to reserve a room at a value resort and plan for that financially. If a discount comes up, then you can upgrade to the moderate for not very much more money.

Hi! It seems to me as if you're asking what everyone means by "codes." Periodically, Disney releases discount codes that you can apply to your reservations, often resulting in substantial savings. On my first trip to WDW using a very knowledgeable TA, I was booked into the GF with a discount code that saved me about 40% off the "rack" (full price) rate, and I didn't even know it until I looked up the rates on my own and saw what they were at full price for the time I was travelling!

Having said that, I'm still fairly new at all this and there are lots of experts on these boards who can give you great advice, such as the advice from ktglads.

Good luck and have a great vacation! :wave2:

So, I can just watch for codes to be announced? Will they be specfic to certain resorts?

So does that mean I should book my room and tickets seperate?

Or do they offer codes for packages(room & tickets?)

Danielle,
My last trip I made reservations through a travel agency that specializes in Disney. I think it was yourmagicaljourney.com. I got them to make my initial reservation and then asked them to keep me abreast of any codes that came available. I kept on eye out as well, but I never had to make a single phone call they handled it all.

They have codes in ads in the newspaper and magazines, too.

Sometimes, it works out better to book the room and tickets seperately. You just have to do the math.

They are running a really good deal for new Disney Visa holders right now. Perhaps you could look into that.

When you go to Mousesavers.com, you will see listed three letter codes (e.g. CTV) or four letter codes (e.g. (ZWEN). The three letter codes are for room only and the four letter codes are for packages.

Typically, a one code is good for all resorts. (You will see codes for only FW however).

Yes, you can book your reservations now. And when a new code comes out that covers your trip, call WDW and ask them to apply code XXX or XXXX to your reservation.

Usually, you need to tell them the code. You just can't ask them to apply A code to your ressies.
