So today I learned that if you switch resorts with a pin code rate they give you what is considered the equivalent category. For example in the case of Poly - if you have lowest category which is garden view, then when you switch to something like Beach Club - they give you the lowest category which in this case is not garden view, it is standard view.

There are ways around it, but not through the regular cast members in reservations. They will just quote this fact to you and may not be very helpful. Just an fyi.

Hmm I switched from a 1 bd villa at BWV to the poly gv last year. I had the option of any room I wanted at the poly. I was booked with a pin and the pin was even expired. Are you sure the cm you talked to knew what they were doing. It's seems like only about half of them know how to do their jobs these days.

no, i am definitely not sure the cm knew what he was doing especially as he was making great efforts to justify the mistake made by another cast member, lol. I think he was probably quoting the Disney Reservations Bible chapter and verse, but they probably don't follow that one hundred percent.

Anyway, the problem is now fixed.

We did the same thing last year, we were initially booked at a moderate with a pin code & we switched to the BC and we had the choice of any view with the exception of the Standard View as that was the only one not available. I would call back as it definitely doesn't sound like that CM knew what they were talking about....

With a room only PIN, you should be able to upgrade or downgrade to anything as long as it is available with the PIN. I've changed resorts and views/CL up until the last few days of going with no problem, as long as it was available.

With a package/dining code, after 45 days, you can only upgrade without being charged.

I obviously wasn't there on the call, but am thinking Garden wasn't available on the PIN, and they had to call Guest Services to make an exception.

I've been dealing with a cm who I believe is in Guest Services. Unfortunately, she was out sick today. I had to call around through reservations because my contact was not returning my call and I guessed she was out sick (she sounded terrible on phone yesterday). First reservations agent very nice and tried to find out whether he could help me get Garden View room requested and try to find out where my regular contact was (i.e. was she out sick). When he couldn't revise the reservation (I guess it is now being handled by what I believe to be guest services) he put second agent on. It was the second agent (who I believe was his higher up) who insisted that the reason I was moved to standard view (despite conversation with my guest services person yesterday about changing to garden view) was for the reason I listed above. I wasn't even looking for any explanation. I just wanted fixed.

They were able to figure out however that my regular contact was having a sick day and sent an email to her department. I got a call form one of her co-workers who gladly fixed the problem. So I got my happy ending.
