besides of course tickets, money, etc?
bathing suits, sunscreen, drink mugs, ?

There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to change resorts during a trip to WDW. Our reason is that Concierge wasn't available for our entire stay at the Polynesian resort, so we're starting out at the Wilderness Lodge concierge, then moving over to the Polynesian concierge. This also gives us the chance to experience 2 very different resorts. :)

I know that I've read many other reasons why people choose to switch resorts during a Disney World trip including better usage of DVC points, making a stay at a deluxe more affordable by starting out at a value or moderate resort, etc.

Hi Barb :wave2:

We plan on packing 1 backpack on the day we switch, and put everyone's bathing suit in there, plus a small bottle of sunscreen, tickets of course, and that's probably all. Just the basic things you'd need for a day at the park, plus bathing suits in case you want to go swimming. :) I can't think of anything else.

When we move from BCV to POR for our last week-end, I'll have the things you already mentioned in my bag. We try to do a breakfast on our moving day, then over to the new resort, check-in and maybe get into our room. If not, we either go to the pool or off to a park. When I've checked into anything other than a DVC resort, I've been able to get into my room by 1:00 or so. Of course, my bags won't be there, but it's nice to just relax a bit.

As to why anyone would want to move. If we go for more than a week, we likd to try out a different resort for a few days. Last summer we stayed at BWV for the first time, but didn't want to use our points for those high point week-end nights. So, we tried out the Contemporary for two nights and found we love it!!! Will most certainly be going back there. This coming June, we will be at BCV from Sat to Friday. Then on Fri we switch over to POR. Using Fri/Sat night points the first week-end but since we love POR so much (it was our first WDW resort!!) we want to stay there for a few nights, so tacked them on at the end.

It really isn't a huge issue to move. Disney moves your bags for you as long as you are moving between Disney owned resorts. They usually get to the new resort by mid-afternoon.

We've done this once and never again. We couldn't get all the nights at the Poly we wanted so we tried the first 3 nights at AKL. Had Savannah view and all but it was a waste of our vacation. The resort is nice but the halls or trails to your rooms were long and a long way to the food court. Animals from the room, just a few not worth the extra and we never cared for AK park. Our vacation to me didn't start till we transferred to the Poly and had Disney do it for us. Thought our bags would be there before us, nope. If I had known that they wouldn't show up till after 3pm, I would have taken them on the Disney bus with us. We only have 4 suitcases and would have had them at the Poly and in our room stowed away and ready to go. Also, unpacking in one resort and packing to go to another is too bothersome when all the fun I need is in the resort I really want. If I want to stay at another resort, I'll reserve it for another vacation, not mess up my vacation, packing, unpacking and transfering all over the place.

Any medicine that anyone might need. Mother has prescriptions that she needs to take 3 times a day. After we had checked out I ask her where her pills were - in the luggage.....

anyway she did learned - now they stay in her purse.

Why the need to change resorts? :confused3

When we went in january I couldn't decide between WL and AKL, so did both, and loved it. It was like two vacations in one--going from the Pacific northwest to an African savanna. We live out of our suitcases, so it was no big deal to move. We had bell services pick up our luggage, caught a bus to AK, then AKL, where we checked in early and explored for a bit. We then went off to the parks and called later in the day for our room number. The only things we took to the park that day was our regular stuff (sunscreen, cell phone, camera, tickets, new AKL room keys, and tickets).

In May I'm renting DVC points Sun-Thurs, but am spending two days at POP before and two days after, because DVC points are double on Fri-Sat. I got an AP discount at POP so added two days to my vacation. Anyway I'll be moving twice, but Disney makes it so easy. On Sunday morning I'll pack my regular stuff in my fanny pack or back pack, catch the early character meal bus to BC, walk over to BW, check in early, explore a bit, then walk over to the International Gateway when Epcot opens. If my room is not ready, I'll simply get my key, and call sometime during the day for my room number. After Illuminatiuons that night I'll walk back to BW, stop by bell sevices for my luggage, and go to my room.
