Resort Changers--The Saga Continues.....

When I saw this thread I thought this group might be the only ones that could help me or understand.
I have SOG booked for 6nights in Jan. at 145 per night I also have booked 2 rooms at the POP for the same nights. This is for me and my daughter to have a room and my husband and son to have their own room. This was my DH idea. He hates the thought of being crowded.
Now I had originally thought as soon as a code comes out I could possibly get 30-40% off POP rooms. But what if there is no code for me?
So I look at the total for the POP and I think.... We could be staying at the POLY for this price with one room and it's bigger.
Please help I think I have an ulcer.
So two ressies and a possible third scenario. Cancel SOG keep POP. Wait for codes. Book POLY?

Well, keeping the DH happy always come into play for me......thats one of the reasons we purchased DVC..all the rest of the reasons...I wanted it! LOL

if he wants space....then maybe 2 rooms...even though I would want the Poly myself!!!

I wish we could all find out when codes and or AP rates are released for Jan/Feb....

Will be watching for updates!

I'd keep 2 rooms instead of switching to the Poly. I'm not familiar with either SOG or POP but I'm like your husband in that I cannot stand to feel crowded.

Also, SOG has huge rooms, We have never stayed there but I have had friends that have. They are close to or larger than the rooms at the Poly and way larger than the ones at the Pop!

We did stay at the resort when it was the Golf resort and if Disney hasn't changed the room sizes, they were very roomy. After DH and I were married, we took my son, and my youngest brother and it was still spacious.

Thanks for the replies. I will make final decision when codes come out. Tick-Tock come on codes:surfweb: Or maybe not I'm not good making FINAL decisions.

O.K., who will be the 1st to start planning out tour? I LOVE this idea, especially the part were we would be instrumental in creating world peace (or something like that).....:lmao: Tea at GF is great...today. Tomorrow we will all want to switch to zebra domes at AKL or mid-night drinks at the tiki bar :rotfl2: I say we ALL qualify for the first annual Tour De Disney Resort Changers Spectacular!!

Just called today and changed to POFQ.....we'll see how long that lasts. (Now, to go update that ticker.)

Count me in.

We planned a last minuted trip at Christmas. We have 5 people so that right there put a kink in my planning, Tried family suites no luck booked POR at but was only able to get partial dates. Kept calling, calling and calling, added the rest of our dates. OH MY this room will not be very comfortable with the ages of kids, added second room, this too took several calls over serveral days to find, think we're happy yet, OH NO, why are we spending this kind of money, when this is not really where we want to be. Back to the phones, calling, calling and call some more. We finally got a room at Yacht club (Location Location Location) today, should be happy right. No I tell my husband ok now we have to call and call and call until they can move us to beach club (I really want to be in newly renovated) rooms. My DD has sereve asthma and I don't want to chance getting a old smoking room. I wonder If I will ever be able to book a room and stick with it. I need help!!!

SOME ONE HELP PLEASE== CALL IN THE AUTHORITIES
I did it again, switched to the BC, will there ever be a cure?

Sorry, there is NO cure. Now, it's time to start second guessing. "Should I have switched from POR?" It's costing a lot more to stay and the Beach Club..:lmao:

Well, I didn't switch once I'd actually made reservations, except to upgrade to a better room I'd have gotten had it been available originally.
But...in the planning stages...
First I was sure I wanted to stay at Port Orleans Riverside.
Then I decided maybe the Wilderness Lodge with bunk beds for the two kids.
Then I decided hey, the Polynesian is only a little more expensive and there's a day bed that would be perfect for my five year old, so my wife and I would get a queen and my 14 year old son would get the other queen. So we were going to book a garden view at the Poly.
Then I decided, hey, let's get a Magic Kingdom view, then we can watch the fireworks from our room!
Then I started looking at the Contemporary. I showed my wife the pictures and she decided she thought it was more her style. I agreed. So, we switched to the Contemporary with Garden Wing Garden View rooms. I wanted a room in the Tower with a Magic Kingdom view, but that's what they had. This time I actually made a reservation.
The next day I switched to the Tower Bay Lake view when it became available.
Then a week later I switched to the room I really wanted, Tower Magic Kingdom view. Phew! All done now!
I think! :)
So, we went from spending $1,370.25 on our room to spending $3,386.25! YIKES!

Welcome to the club!!!!!

I grew up in Florida, so we would often go to Disney for small day trips.
I always wanted to stay "on campus" to take in the theming, etc., but that just wasn't in our cards.

Now that I've started a family, I can finally say "yes"- we're spending some extra time in Disney...but I've only been impressed with the deluxe resorts...especially AKL and Poly.

The thing is ... D&%$! these delux resorts are expensive!.... and the Fl Res rates for the value resorts are really really cheap (sometimes $59.00 for POP or AS, etc.)...

We like the big themed pools (especially zero entry pools!), and bigger beds (from what I've seen), and nice lobbies...but am I being foolish...? It seems like so many people love the value resorts, especially POP e.g. Would the little ones really care??

In other words. Will I be disappointed by downsizing, and saving alot of dough (I just usually bite the bullet, figure it's disney, and know its going to be an expensive trip)...or are there other resort snobs who just won't sacrifice?

Is there as much to do... especially for little ones... at these value resorts? Has anyone else downsized and regretted it? :thanks:

we've only stayed at Pop so far and have nothing to compare it too, but we were pleasantly surprised. My kids loved it and still talk about it. I don't know how old your kids are, but mine really enjoyed Goofy's water fountain and the kiddie pool. We're staying in deluxe room (which is CL) at the Wilderness Lodge in May so I'll get to experience the other end of the spectrum, but part of me is worried that my kids won't like it as much as Pop because the kiddie pool doesn't look as nice (no fountains.) We want to try lots of other resorts, but I could totally see ourselves going back to pop Century to save some money, especially on shorter trip that wouldn't involve a lot of downtime.

If we could afford to go every year I think we would be happy with a moderate, but not a value. Too many people at them for my tastes.
But we live in Arizona and we can't afford to go every year, even if we stayed at the HoJo Main Gate East for $40 a night. But we had a windfall this year (inheritence) so we are splurging on something we've always wanted. That's why we are going all out with the $470 a night room. Otherwise I think $180 would be more reasonable and stay at a moderate.

We loved Pop. We loved AKL and we loved WL. We had 2 rooms at Pop and we stayed in 2005 when the rate was $69 or something like that. It was our 1st time on site but I know that we will stay there again eventually. We don't think of it in terms of deluxe vs. value. We think of it in terms of "we can stay where we want." I wouldn't limit myself to only deluxes. I look at theming and size. If we were to stay value or even moderate for that matter, we would need room enough for the DS's to have their own beds (important to us). This would mean that we would have to either book 2 rooms or purchase or bring an instant bed. I don't think of Pop as sacrificing. I think of it as another resort option. Again, we would have to have 2 rooms so the price would end up being what a moderate resort would cost anyway. Enjoy WHEREVER you stay by finding out as much as you can about the resort amenities and taking advantage of them all. :thumbsup2
