Resort category upgrades.. how do you do it?

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has any experience with getting a free upgrade on their resort. Not that I am not completely grateful and excited to be even staying where I am at (CSR), but I have read, possibly on this site (can't remember where), stories of people that asked for something called and "invitational upgrade" and they ended up getting to stay at the Polynesian for no extra charge! I have a suspicion that my boyfriend is going to propose to me down there and I want to make everything as special as possible. We won the trip through an incentive program he has for his job and it was only for the moderates, but I really want to stay in one of the deluxes. Please let me know if anyone has any tips of when and how you can ask for an upgrade! Thanks! Oh, by the way, I am going in November during a non-busy time if that helps.
